Yup, Saddam, while not exactly a pal, was not on our hit list for a long time. If that nitwit Ambassador April Gasby (sic) hadn't given him the wrong idea about our interest in Kuwait, he might still have a job.
Reagan's record against the Islamic tide of terror was nothing less than abysmal.
If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favourable reference to the devil in the House of Commons.-Winston Churchill
This profile is designed to make the sheeple feel sorry for Saddam. He's a "regular guy" doncha know. Eats Cheetos and hates Froot Loops. Awww.....
"Yo Devil-Dog, we also supplied the Iraqis with much satellite and other intelligence during their war with Iran. It was the last gasp of classic trench warfare, so knowledge of what the Ayatollah's boys were up to, was crucial to the Iraqi's holding on. Roger that to every word you said. Tis the truth. But I cannot accept the honor you eluded to of me being amoung the few and the proud.
I have a nephew LCpl in the 2nd LAR currently serving in northwest Al Anbar. So I will take the complement in behalf of him, and all his buddies.
Reagan's worst blunder was allowing the 241 Marines murdered by Iran-financed Hezbollah in Lebanon to go unavenged. It reinforced our "paper tiger" status, encouraging Islamists to believe we'd turn tail and run at the slightest sign of adversity.
Considering the fish Reagan did fry, I think you're being a little harsh here.
In Reagan's day you still had to deal with the Soviet Union, which backed Syria, and leaned to Iraq and Iran. I doubt the USSR would have backed Iran, but it probably would have made things quite difficult for us in the other two. Of course Iran may have asked for Russian aide to help it against us too.
The reality of facing off the USSR in Afghanistan by proxy meant that we had to train and arm freedom fighters. Unfortunately those were later to become Moslem extremist terrorists. Sometimes you can't win for losing.
What Bush has done today, was simply impossible during the Reagan years. With out a Soviet Colapse, we wouldn't even be able to do it today IMO.

You got that right. And as another member commented, he now has a million wild flaming American feminists ready to tear him into pieces, for telling our men to find not to smart, not to dumb, women that know how to cook.
Heh heh, the jerk keeps this up and even some stupid commie demo's might turn on him. Of course perhaps that is a bit to much to ask of any Leninist or Troskite.
IMO, the biggest fiasco of that event after the fact, was that someone didn't stand for courtmartial. It was simply inexcusable for anyone to be able to get that close to the building. The guy in charge blew it.
Without that even taking place, Reagan wouldn't have needed to take action. Perhaps he should have sent a message, but as far as I am concerned his military command on the ground let him down big-time.
Completely agree.
Is the MSM playing this up either to continue smearing Reagan, to get Saddam sympathy from the Right, or to get the left to finally say something bad about Hussein?
