Doesn't the chief justice set the agenda for hearing the cases??

Four of the nine justices must agree to hear a case before it can be heard. One justice, even the chief, does not decide that.

Yeah, he sets the schedule, but he doesn't control what cases are heard. It's a very overblown job title.
