Apologize then retract it by a quote from Lincoln?
If memory serves me correctly, others in Congress have apologized for conduct and actions and were still removed.
Now, let's see how he gets Al Jazeera to recant their broadcasting of his words.
Sorry, Senator, the damage is done. How are you going to undo it?
"genuine heartfelt concerns about the treatment of prisoners and detainees at Guantanamo "
He should have heartfelt concerns for Americans, NOT the terrorists who are trying to kill us. The FBI info he is talking about is about interrogating the 20th hijacker (not Moussaoui, but the one who tried to get into the US, but couldn't and they captured him somewhere later).
So Durbin has "heartfelt concerns" for terrorists, and attacks those, who are trying to get information from said terrorists, to protect us and prevent the next attack.
Just file this in his hind end! NOT FORGIVEN!!
meant FDS...
Misleading headline - close but still not an apology.
It upsets me to here Laury Dhue say he said he was sorry on her Fox News. He did not, he never stuck up for the troops or America. He SUCKs and should be thrown out on his big fat butt.
You didn't hear the choking up?? It was disgustingly PHONEY!!
Democrats worry more about what freepers think than they do about those of us who support them. I really, really wish Democrats would stop apologizing...(blah, blah)...Sometimes I just feel like giving up!
*snicker*
An honorable man would resign, Senator Durbin.
When someone tells you they are sorry IF you are unable to understand them, the blame is on you, not them. Re-read dirtbin's comments and count the number of times he uses a disclaimer, "I am sorry IF..."
IF he were truly sorry, he would have claimed his words did indeed cause pain, anger, and harm to his country AND he would have resigned. As it is, he is just covering his sorry ass.
I now have a hint of a shred of the penumbra of respect for the treasonous bastard.
Now remove him from his leadership position.
No, I just got home and didn't hear any of it. I'd heard the "breaking news" on Fox at about 3pm that he'd apologized, but didn't hear the apology. OMG. He cried? He was "choked up"? What a fake!
I read this and reread it. One thing missing is saying he was sorry for even saying it. I think he just wishes he would have compared our troops to " Jenjis Khan ". Nobody around to offend.
Apologies should be accepted graciously.
I still, STILL want and demand that the Republicans in the Senate get a set and refuse this ruse of an apology and demand that he at the very least resign all leadership positions, issue a formal and REAL apology to me and to every other American he insulted and especially to the troops who guard the non-American scum at Gitmo and to those that guard the anti-American scum who call themselves elected officials. Yes, I'm irritated.
The dirtbin is grasping at straws to find a quote from Lincoln to reflect his notion that he is still right in what he said (and yet sorry IF you just don't understand him) and you think that makes for a good apology? I don't get it.
Sorry Sen but you may have just become the poster boy for the return of this

The U.S. Sedition Act
"I raised legitimate concerns that others have raised..." -- I don't think that is an apology, or a statement acknowledging that he was even wrong. He again claims his concerns are legitimate.
"horrible details in that memo" -- He again re-confirms that the details in the memo are accurate and, indeed, he continues to reference the memo as though it is in fact accurate, without quoting it.
"I, then, on my own, in my own words, made some characterizations about that memo" No, Senator, you characterizations were not that the memo was horrible, but that the US Troops and their behavior was horrible. Don't apologize for mischaracterizing the memo as horrible, apologize for mischarcterizing the US Troops who protect your backside! However, he makes references to the memo, thus trying to imply that he was not referencing the US troops, a suble but easily seen misdirection...
He only regrets thyat some misinterpreted what he stated clearly, not what he in fact stated.
Stating that some believe he has crossed the line is not an admission that he crossed the line, it is mearly an acknowledgement of the red hot e-mails he was undoubtedly receiving.
