Conservative religious leader Rev. Jerry Falwell credited evangelicals for putting President Bush in office in 2004 and said the Christian group now has its eye on defeating Hillary Clinton should she run in the next presidential election.
"The church won the 2004 elections and don't let anyone tell you any differently," Falwell told a crowd of about 9,000 attending Southern Baptist Convention Pastors Conference, a prelude to the two-day annual SBC convention that starts today.
"Now we've got a bigger challenge ahead of us. We've got to deal with Hillary in '08," Falwell said Monday, amid cheers and clapping from audience members in the Gaylord Convention Center in downtown Nashville.
Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore also spoke before Falwell's 40-minute speech. Moore who lost his job as chief justice last year after defying a federal order to remove a 5,300-pound Ten Commandments monument he had installed in the state courthouse said some judges are overstepping their duties.
"Separation of church and state doesn't mean separation of God and government," Moore said. "Rule of law doesn't mean rule of man. Without the acknowledgment of God, there would be no First Amendment."
In his recently released book, "So Help Me God," Moore recounts his two-year fight to publicly display the Ten Commandments in the judicial building's rotunda. He was the first chief justice in Alabama's history to be expelled from office for refusing a federal judge's order to remove the monument. He appealed his removal to the U.S. Supreme Court but lost.
Andrew Smith, who is a Baptist pastor in Middle Tennessee, said he believed Moore was brave for trying to install the Ten Commandments in the courthouse.
"There needs to be more judges like him," Smith said. "These liberal judges put their own opinion in instead of just interpreting the law."
Hillary is getting more popular as conservatives continue to scorn her.
We should ignore her for now. Heck, I've already started!
He needs to worry about blue-collar voters in Ohio who have seen their jobs disappear and unemployed white-collar tech workers nostalgic for the economic boom of the 1990s. These are the folks that will turn the election.

Falwell is right in part but "Americans Must Defeat Hillary!"
Isn't Hillary a Christian herself?
She doesn't need any publicity. We can't bury our heads in the sand, but at the same time, we certainly don't have to help her by keeping her name in the daily news.
That's half the answer. All the attention serves only to keep her name in the news. However, we need to keep Dr. Dean in the news - all that bad press must stay top of mind.
What we really need for the next election as another Freeper has pointed out are jobs and security for the working men and women. A bad economy will drag us down farther and Hillary can promise her heart out if the GOP doesn't deliver. Morals come second when you have hungry kids.
4 once in my life i agree with falwell.
There are so many different people that call themselves Christian, how does one know who is really a Christian, and who isn't?
She's a Methodist, but I doubt she's a Christian... Same way Teddy Kennedy is a Roman Catholic, but I doubt he's much of a Christian...
Nop need to perpetuate this myth "unemployed white-collar tech workers nostalgic for the economic boom of the 1990s" The tech job market is hot, now. Even my brother is working, and his skills have been out of date for 20 years.
The same way you can tell anyone has faith in G-d - by their actions.
You were saying? :-)
Well, those that are against abortion, gay marriage, pornography, and don't sneer at and disrespect Judeo-Christian values would qualify as real Christians. Using those things as guidelines, Mother Theresa would be an example of a real Christian, so would Billy Graham.
Teddy and Hillary are CINOs (Christians in Name Only), they use it only when it is convenient in furthering their agendas.
Wouldn't it be ironic if the "antichrist" ran as a Republican against Hillary and Jerry Falwell and the Christian Right campaigned for him?
Amen!
Falwell the father of the New King James Bible, expects us to fight against evil without the sword of truth, the King James Bible (Heb.4:12)
