FAIR Accepts Senator McCain's Offer to Debate Comprehensive Immigration Reform
June 20, 2005
During remarks Monday before the American League of Lobbyists (ALL), Senator John McCain offered to debate FAIR "any time, any place" about the critical issue of comprehensive immigration reform in the United States. In his presentation to the ALL gathering, Senator McCain asserted that immigration is now the issue of greatest concern to the American public.
Dan Stein, president of FAIR, immediately accepted Senator McCain's proposal for a "respectful" debate about immigration policy. "We thank Senator McCain for his offer to debate this critical public policy issue, and we respectfully and enthusiastically accept that invitation," said Stein. "A frank and public debate about immigration policy has long been needed in this country, and we look forward to having this discussion at the Senator's earliest possible convenience."
Senators McCain and Kennedy have introduced legislation that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in the U.S. and open the doors to millions of additional guest workers who would ultimately become permanent residents of the U.S. A second piece of legislation, authored by Senators John Cornyn and Jon Kyl, is expected to be introduced in the next few weeks.
"On one matter there is absolutely no disagreement between ourselves and Senator McCain: immigration is the most important issue facing the United States today," said Stein. "The decisions that Congress makes this year will affect every meaningful aspect of life in America for generations to come. From homeland security, to the environment, to the long-term viability of the middle class in America, immigration policy will play a defining role in the sort of country our children and grandchildren will inherit."
In a letter to Senator McCain, FAIR proposes a public debate at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., this summer. FAIR is also amenable to holding additional debates at a time and location of Senator McCain's choosing. "Our bottom line is that comprehensive immigration reform is a matter that must be debated before any serious consideration is given to pending legislation and that it be held in a forum that affords the greatest possible coverage by the media. If, as the Senator has pointed out, this is the number one concern for the American public, then it must be debated before the American public," Stein said.
In response to the McCain-Kennedy and other expected legislation, FAIR has published Seven Principles for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. "We believe the principles we propose for a comprehensive overhaul of American immigration policy represent the interests and concerns of the vast majority of Americans. We eagerly look forward to testing those principles in an open and respectful debate with Senator McCain, and contributing to comprehensive immigration reform that is in the national interest," Stein concluded.

This should be good. Whoever FAIR puts up against McCain will wipe the floor with him. He's a good man and a good American, but no rocket scientist. On this one especially, he will just mouth the liberal and big business cliches.
Anyone who watches or hears this debate will know he lost.
Why do Republicans like Bush, McCain and Hatch always feel they have to work with Ted Kennedy to get things done? If Kennedy was important, he would've made it to the White House by now. Work with Biden or someone who is at least halfway decent, please!
McCain has even said in the recent past that he and Hillary Clinton have agreed on many current national issues.
With the '08 Democrat nomination all but locked up, Hillary is already moving to the center and is in the process of taking both sides of every issue. By the time the election rolls around, we'll all agree with Hillary (at least half of the time, anyway) because she'll say and do absolutely anything to get elected.
Respectful? Whoa! Does that meant that McCain cannot call Dan Stein a racist? Take away that charge, and the illegal invaders advocate's quill is empty, save to extoll the dubious benefits of cheap labor.

Apparently he didn't get the message that the antis are supposed to say that it is only illegal immigrants they oppose, not legal ones.
"Overall immigration must be reduced to balance out-migration, i.e., about 300,000 per year while still permitting nuclear family reunification and a narrowly focused refugee resettlement program. A moratorium on all other immigration should be immediately adopted "
Y'all might as well drop the pretense that it is only "illegal" immigrants that you oppose.
Notice he mentions the 300,000 out-migrants, but apparently isn't aware of the almost two million Americans who are now being aborted each year. Typical of the ZPG crowd.
THIS SHOULD BE GOOD !!!!
Thanks for posting this thread.
FAIR has only been trying to be heard (regarding immigration reform and illegal immigration) for Oh, at least 5 years that I know about (probably longer). I think McCain has looked at it for 2 months.
I hope the debate is televised.
What's you point rod? We only oppose the ILLEGAL INVASION which is not immigration at all.
.
I agree... I would pay money to see a good debate between FAIR and any "open-borders" advocate... the population in Northwest Arkansas has "exploded" in the past 10 years... and, color me cynical, but I would be willing to bet that a large number of the newcomers are illegal... and, I'm not talking strictly Hispanics, either... we have several Marshallese and Vietnamese as well...
McCain looks like shit on TV. I saw him yesterday after not getting a good look at him for a few years since I loathe him.
McCain/McPain in the ass .... will lose this debate
Pretense? Pretense? The present immigration system needs to be reformed entirely so that it benefits the United States. The illegal part is the most egregious example, the conspicuous worm that demonstrates the entire apple is rotten.
I suppose you believe that the present immigration system, devised by Ted Kennedy in the 1960's, is perfection itself, and none but a xenophobic racist would ever wish to change it to the least degree.

11th Circuit OKs RICO Suit Involving Illegal Aliens
This time bomb will likely land on the (oligarchic) desks of the U.S.S.C. justices. It will be an explosion heard around the world if the U.S.S.C. continues in it's CAFTA/NAFTA/One World pattern and squashes the American worker's rights to be defended against foreign illegal aliens invading their rightful place of employment and livelihood - without which no nation has ever survived. America is no different.
If there really are sinister powers seeking to end the American way of life, they are about to surface with no disguises and no political masks to cover their faces.
This case will be the acid test for determining if we are still going to have a United States of America anymore.
If the illegal employment dries up, illegal aliens will be no more than mere homeless vagrants here and will have no choice but to remain in Mexico and South America.
El Presidente Fox may or may not have a way of getting to the judges of the 11th Circuit Appellate Court.
Cross your fingers.
===========================================
The judges noted that their decision put the 11th Circuit in conflict with the 7th Circuit's decision last year in Baker v. IBP, 357 F.3d 685, in which that court refused to allow a RICO case to go forward. The 11th Circuit judges pointed out that "the Supreme Court had yet to delineate the exact boundaries" of some of the RICO tests -- an indication that the case could get attention from the U.S. Supreme Court, which often accepts cases in order to resolve a split among the circuits.
A debate is fine but we've been talking about immigration for years yet nothing's been done about it. The fact is the borders aren't closed because the government doesn't want them to be regardless of what the people's wishes are. The only thing that will work is voting them out.
This "debate" is nothing but a steaming pile. If anyone has a small clue about FAIR(y), they know they are a liberal media watchdog group and probably a McCain groupie. They and McCain would likely be on the same side of the issue. And they want to debate immigration "reform"? Feh!
FGS
Well, here's my "small clue":
FAIR is the Federation for American Immigration Reform.
They're ANTI-uncontrolled immigration.
There is another, liberal group called FAIR, and they're a supposed media watchdog, but that's not who we're talking about.
