Yes, The US Navy records will not explain his discharge in 1978, those records would be under the control of the DOD

I've tried 3 times over the last 10 years to get copies of my Army records from '81-'85. The first 2 times was the fire story, the last was the flood.

Alls I wanted was proof that I busted my right leg and foot when an M-109 tried to run me over on a muddy tank trail in Graf, but I guess the shooting pain in my foot when the barometric pressure drops rapidly will have to suffice.

Naval officers (USN and USNR) separated between certain dates have all of their records archived at the NPRC in St. Louis. DOD has nothing to do with this. He was discharged from the Navy Reserves - those records weren't requested.

There is are a few phone numbers to call at the place in St Louis. Call the military line. They have actual people there that can help you. Nothing I've ever heard should have effected your records, the fire has before your time.
If you want contact me offline and I'll dig up the number for you.

It appears he released active duty records only, and not reserves.

Swift Boat Veteran For Truth John O'Neill Comments on Kerry's 180 'Release'
6/7/05
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1418592/posts

John Kerry was dishonorably dismissed from the Navy:
(statement from lawyers there at the time)

Why does Hanoi Kerry continue to refuse to sign
form SF 180 and release his military records to the public?

Didn't he also do his active duty as a USNR officer? I don't think he ever was actually a USN officer. (I was enlisted so I'm not fully up on the technicalities of the distinctions.)

Thanks, I just sent in my request...

"please forward ALL documents, just this once, to:
Amanda Huggenkiss, from the BigWazoo Record. "

However, I sent mine to St. Louis.

Kerry's service number is only 6 digits on the form. This seems odd to me. My service number is 8 Digits. I was in the Army and have never seen a service number less than 8 digits.

Does anyone know is the Navy ordinarily uses a six digit service number?

Well .. somebody from Powerline should check with John O'Neill because he says this is not all of John's records. In fact I heard him say that when you sign a 180 - you release ALL documents - including citations - and discharge papers. And .. I heard later that it is possible for John to sign for the release of only certain documents - but that's not a 180.

so... nobody else can get a copy, just the Boston Globe reporter Kranish?

One each to Boston Globe, Associated Press, and Los Angeles Times. AKA Pravda, Izvestia, and Red Star.

We'll not be finding out about anything negative in the record anytime soon. I also note that he didn't list his reserve service time, even though it was inactive reserve, either Individual Ready Reserve (which is still selected reserve, subject to involuntary recall by the President) or Inactive Status reserve, (subject to recall authorized by Congress). Trouble is, the most interesting information may deal with his reserve time, not his active duty time. The form is very sloppily filled out. Are we to believe that non of Kerry's staff has a typewriter, or could not have filled the form out electronically. In this day and age, I'd be ashamed to turn in a form that looked like that. The forms also look like they were filled in once, and then xeroxed and white out used to remove the information to be changed and then the changed information written over the white out. It's also possible they just filled out only the unchanging party, then made copies and filled in the three different persons/agencies for the material to be released and sent to.

Kerry only states US Navy but is the Navy Reserves included in the category?

Well, since the form has a separate row for Reserve service, one would think not.

That seems rather odd, especially when you read the fine print on the docs, they (the military) seem rather big on dates.

If this wasn't from a sitting US Senator, the clerk would send it back to be re-accomplished.
