Three reasons I would be against placing our military or more border patrol agents on the border. First, it doesn't solve the root cause driving people to leave Mexico. Secondly it is unfair to burden the American taxpayer with the longterm cost of a problem that originates outside our country. And lastly, it only makes us more vulnerable as the two points most likely to suffer an attack by terrorists using WMD's are directly across the border from San Diego, California and El Paso, Texas, and putting more people in harms way would only help assure the damage inflicted on our civilian and military population is catastrophic.
This doesn't end until there is major change in Mexico, and they are not capable of making the necessary changes themselves.

The Army's job is to kill people and break things. This job is done best in the context of stomping an enemy into submission to convince him that continued aggression against the United States is really not in his best interests. The Army works very poorly (despite valiant and honest efforts by the soldiers) at relief missions, nation-building, policing, and other assorted non-military missions to which the Democrats have committed it over the years.
So, how many Latin American would-be illegals should the Army kill? Remember, that is what the Army does - kill.

So, how many Latin American would-be illegals should the Army kill? Remember, that is what the Army does - kill. Actually, the Army has killed very few people since May of '03, especially along the borders they protect, when you consider all the borders we protect - Iraq/Syria, Afghanistan/Pakistan, N. Korea/S. Korea, US/Mexico, etc. Oh, you didn't know we're already providing limited protection along our Southern Border? Yeah, we are.
And we should be doing this more. You don't have to kill people to secure a border. The MinuteMan Project proved that in my backyard in April.
And if you don't think it's vitally important to secure our borders, you deserve what the Islamic Fundamentalists and Hispanic Reconquistas have in store for you.

he lost me when he called the Minutemen "vigilantes" while he was kissing the a** of Vicente Fox He lost me when four years went by and he did absolutely NADA about protecting the borders and enforcing immigration laws. I didn't vote for him in '04 - I went to the Constitution Party and read a REAL American political platform.

"How many illegals (Invaders) will the Army be allowed to kill...?"
The old time Texas Rangers should be reconstituted. They were basically a citizens miltia and they did one Helluva job in the early years of Texas policing the border areas.

The Mexican military itself has been forced to put troops in the town of Nuevo Laredo in response to efforts by the drug cartels to take control.
They can do that because their laws are different. Do we really want to see our Army come in and take over one of our cities?
IIRC we made laws against using the military within our borders because of the bad experiences in England, with troops being quartered within private homes, and the Army conducting unreasonable searches and seizures, and all kinds of other abuses. So we put limitations on what our military can do within our own borders. It's the Posse Comitatus Act.
I think an individual state can have its own National Guard do pretty much whatever it wants, though, in response to state issues. That might be a good response, and those guys have some military gear available that could really help with detecting approaching border-crossers. But the National Guard is already being heavily used in Iraq, so I'm not sure how many would be available for border duty. And good luck getting our Democrat Arizona Governor to do something about securing our border. She would rather talk about the Federal responsibility and sit back and do nothing.

I'll 2nd that motion.
When I heard Bush doing a get out the vote speech in Spanish to an hispanic org in his first term, it was creepy--- but the blind, deaf, dumb routine he's doing now is beyond any understanding. Except for Clinton, it's hard to believe any US President would sell out the USA, but seein is believin.
My biggest mistake of 2004 was voting for the snake.
