Official Offers Look at How Iraq's Insurgency Stages Deadly Suicide Attacks
June 20, 2005 As the number of suicide bombings in Iraq grows higher and higher, a top U.S. military intelligence official tells ABC News they are learning more about the true nature of the bombers.
According to Brig. Gen. John Custer, director of intelligence for U.S. Central Command, suicide bombers are "recruited on the Internet. They hear about the terrible atrocities perpetrated against the Iraqis in Iraq. They want to go and martyr themselves."
Officials say they know of only one suicide bomber who was Iraqi, with the others coming from countries that include Sudan, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia.
Custer says once interest is shown, an elaborate network run by Jordanian militant Abu Musab Zarqawi secretly sends the potential bomber into Iraq.
The would-be suicide bombers, says Custer, are then "hooked up with facilitators, whether in their country or neighboring countries, and flown to a capital Damascus, [Syria,] is a place we've seen associated with this."
If a bombing is successful and then videotaped, it is used to recruit more bombers and raise more money for the cause. Each one of the operations costs thousands of dollars.
Custer is trying to track those who finance the suicide bombers because by the time the attackers get into Iraq, it is often too late to stop them.

And, that makes them chose to blow themselves up in the middle of an Iraqi middle school, market, or resturant? Wow is that stupid.
DU?
I think this is a program the US government should get behind.
Recruit them, put them in a car with what looks like a bomb and send them after specific targets. When they hit the switch, a flag pops up from the dashboard with the words "Boom" on it, and they are surrounded by police.
Like flys to fly paper. Suck them in, kill them, and keep them away from our streets and shopping malls.

I really do hope that our military isn't just now figuring this out. By this stage we should have dummy webpages setup to spread bad information, direct militants into traps where coalition forces can apprehend them, and otherwise sew confusion throughout militant circles to such a degree that they no longer trust any online sites. This is something we should have been doing years ago.
It strikes me that a failure of imagination at almost every level has plagued us. I know the coalition has plenty of successes that we never hear about with good reason, but with half a dozen suicide bombings a day or more wreaking chaos throughout Iraq, we really need to be doing significantly better. Any monkey knows that this mass suicide bombing strategy is going to be replicated in Afghanistan, so we'd better get a handle on how to deal with it in a big hurry.

You beat me too it.
Over there, they truly believe the "Insurgents" are "Freedom Fighters."
Sadly, this is what most Dems believe.
