Don't know if it's fact or just a suggestion but someone posted to me that the beach patrol person thought she had gone off on a fling. I imagine that's not a rare occurence.

I would imagine it might be common among locals, or older people, but I doubt that it is common amongst young, responsible teens that have early flights in the morning. Responsible, intelligent teens that hadn't planned to go anywhere except back to their hotel, where being responsible as they are, they already had their bags packed so they wouldn't be rushed in the morning. Yep, I doubt very many responsible teens, eager to get home and ready themselves for college decide to blow off their flight home. jmo
