But I have to say, that JVS's Mother honestly believes in her son. I can't fault the poor woman for that. It's a tragic mess, brigette.

I'm glad to hear someone else express an ounce of sympathy for at least one of the Van der Sloots.

While I don't claim to have any special insight into anyone's behavior or motives, I believe the van der Sloot parents are sincere.

Before some overheated poster jumps me for sympathizing with the parents of an obvious murderer, let me say that yes, IF it turns out Joran van der Sloot is a murderer, then he should fry.

But I don't think that's at all obvious yet, and I'm surprised at how normally reasonable FReepers get so rabidly un-reasonable over this case.

So many here are quick to seize only upon 'facts' or 'evidence' purveyed by the media that suit their prejudices --and to reject all other facts and evidence that don't.

I think we should all pause and consider how very little we REALLY know about this case.

One thing we DO know here at FR is how mendacious --and how utterly WRONG-- the media often are.

We have been monitoring this case since day one. The beautiful thing about these forum crime threads, is that WE don't take everything the media reports as the gospel truth.

If you notice, there has been a great deal of research that is going into trying to get to the truth in what we are trying desperately to piece together. We've been doing this sort of investigating for years on FR.. So unless you've been on this thread from the onset, you wouldn't be qualified to chastise this amazing group of individuals.
