Why hasn't the FBI told the press what they know? At the very least, they have spoken to the other students and chaperones, and should be able to establish a rudimentary timeline....
Excellent question.
Maybe the FBI has told Natalee's parents something of what they know, and warned them not to reveal anything that might jeopardize a conviction. I hadn't heard much about the FBI other than their involvement was minimal, they watched but didn't participate. And evidently they never put a flipper n the water to look for a body, either, since they weren't given parameters of where they were allowed to search. In fact, the FBI scuba divers went back to the US. But Natalee's mother said several times that the police told them nothing, and that they, the family, had actually found Joran within twelve hours of their arrival on the island...and questioned him.
You can bet that if the FBI told the family that the chances of finding Natalee dead or alive would improve if they sat and waited for the Aruban justice system to work, that's what they would have done at least for a day or two. That's not what happened. And what about the story that someone saw/heard a young woman on the Marriot beach that night, struggling with at least one young man, trying to get away. The man who witnessed this said he called police or someone in authority, and they blew him off. Was this Natalee?
