In a blistering letter to the New York Times, Florida Governor Jeb Bush called the paper's stance on Terri Schiavo a "grotesque and chilling disrespect for the sanctity of life [that] has never been more apparent than in your June 16 editorial."
Bush's letter, published in the Times Saturday, said: "Terri Schiavo was a deeply loved daughter, wife, sister and friend. The fact that her brain was atrophied or that she was blind or could not have been rehabilitated doesn't change that fact."
In its editorial "Autopsy on the Schiavo Tragedy," the Times, while not naming Bush, denounced "opportunistic politicians" who the newspaper claimed had exploited the case.
Yesterday the Times published the governor's letter.
But that was not enough for the liberal Gray Lady. The paper launched another vicious attack on Gov. Bush on its editorial page.
In his letter to the Times Governor Bush wrote: "The New York Times's grotesque and chilling disrespect for the sanctity of life has never been more apparent than in your June 16 editorial 'Autopsy on the Schiavo Tragedy.'
"Terri Schiavo was a deeply loved daughter, wife, sister and friend. The fact that her brain was atrophied or that she was blind or could not have been rehabilitated doesn't change that fact.
"While many medical professionals said she was in a persistent vegetative state, still other highly respected neurologists said there was a chance that she was not.
"In cases where patients do not have an expressed written directive regarding end-of-life decisions and where the patient's guardian has a conflict of interest, it only makes sense to err on the side of life.
"Terri's life and her death remind us all that life is fragile and must be valued.
"Despite claims of cynicism and being 'agenda-driven,' we will continue to strive to protect our most vulnerable citizens. All innocent human life is precious, and government has a duty to protect the weak, the disabled and the vulnerable.

According to Editor & Publisher, the Times published a new editorial Saturday in an attempt to counter Bush's letter:
"After Terri Schiavo was finally allowed to rest in peace on March 31, we hoped she would also have been granted in death what she surely would have wanted - an end to the bitterness that divided her family and made her private suffering a public spectacle. ...
"And so it was heartbreaking yesterday to see Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida thrust himself back into this tragedy just two days after the results of Ms. Schiavo's autopsy showed that her condition had been beyond hope and beyond therapy, that she most likely had been in a persistent vegetative state and that her relatives' allegations that she had been abused by her husband were false.
"For most of the nation, that news provided closure on a wrenching episode. But not for Mr. Bush, who asked a state prosecutor to investigate Michael Schiavo, Ms. Schiavo's husband. Mr. Bush said he wanted to clear up discrepancies in Mr. Schiavo's statements over the last 15 years about the time that elapsed between his finding his wife on the floor and his 911 call. ...
"Of all the politicians who tragically failed to understand and respect the sanctity and privacy of family life in this case, only Mr. Bush seems determined to save face by disturbing the family's peace further and berating those who had been saying all along that he was going down a terrible road."
Despite the Times' assertion that Terri Schiavo "most likely had been in a persistent vegetative state [PVS] and that her relatives' allegations that she had been abused by her husband were false," the autopsy report made no such conclusions.
The report specifically stated that the autopsy could not reveal if she was in PVS and said the medical examiner had no evidence of what caused Terri's collapse.
Nothing is ever too despicable for the socialists. They are beyond belief.
Jeb is a good and decent man.
I wonder if all the Jeb bashers like being on the side of the liberal MSM?
People full of hate because Jeb does not have the powers of a king will by by to trash him soon, but I commend him.
The NYT's can go to Hell. Though I think they already reside there.
Terri's in Heaven free of those LIKE the NYT's that thristed for her Death. Ghouls.
At LAST! A righteous man! Laws need to be put into place to ensure that what happened to Terry Schiavo NEVER happens again.

Go Jeb!
Governor Jeb Bush is indeed a good and decent man. The trashing of him that went on here on FR, and that still goes on, is beyond belief.
Here we go again. The NY Times is so good at starving and killing the innocent, by God, they remind me of the Russian goulags, Pol Pot and the Nazi concentration camps!
I had extremely harsh words against those that supported our judiciary sentencing an innocent women to death, but I have equal disgust towards those that attack Jeb. They are no better, no worse, than the NYT's.
The NYT's wanted Terri dead.
The NYT's wants Jeb's head.
Let each group attempt to stomach the alliance they share with that organ. I couldn't.
"by disturbing the family's peace further"
Last time I heard the Schindlers, Terri's blood family, they were anything but Peaceful. They are thrilled Jeb is checking into this.
Jeb spent time with Mark Fuhrman, from what I understand. Supposedly Mark has uncovered some disturbing stuff. It's just a shame this wasn't done earlier in the case.
By they way, they say Michael still will not tell them where Terri's ashes are, despite a court order.
bttt
Let's face it folks. If your last name is Bush, the NYT hates you.
The old grey lady is wearing a crown of serpents.
I'm guessing this is more evidence that Jeb is not running for president in '08. After all, the Left hated W for not saving the of a guilty woman, slated for the death penalty. With Jeb, they'll hate him for intervening to save innocent life. It's liberal illogic, but either way, they'll hate any conservative running for prez. And the NYTimes will join in the hate-fest. It's a given.
