Rogan Stays Out of Race for Cox's Post (CA-48)

Call it the incredible shrinking campaign.

Over the last two weeks, more potential candidates have bowed out than jumped at the chance of succeeding Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Newport Beach), nominated this month by President Bush to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Just days after the Free Enterprise Fund, a conservative fundraising group in Washington, launched a campaign to draft James Rogan, the former congressman from Glendale said Friday that he was flattered but wasn't in the running.

"I don't anticipate being a candidate, barring some unforeseen event," said Rogan, who also served as undersecretary of commerce during Bush's first term and is best known for being the leading prosecutor on the House Judiciary Committee that impeached President Clinton.

I was a juror in the Hon. James Rogan's court in the Glendale circuit court. I Supported him in his state senate run and in his congressional run. I am all for James Rogan returning to a civic role but a role higher than the 48th congressional district.

Senator

Judicial appointment

President

Loved him in the impeachment era, but he was an absolute joke at the patent office. I wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher.

I was afraid Jim didn't live in Cox's district. I agree that he could better serve his country in the federal judiciary.

I worked on his last campaign, and a finer person you will never find.

I'm not surprised. Does James Rogan even live in the district?

It looks like state Senator John Campbell is the front-runner, with ex-Assemblywoman Marilyn Brewer having an outside chance at an upset win.

Back in 2001, when President Bush considered Chris Cox for a Federal Judgeship, Bob Dornan entertained the idea of moving into the CA-48 to run for the vacant House seat. However, Babs Boxer blocked Chris Cox from even having a hearing for the judgeship. I glad Bob Dornan isn't entering the race. He is an embarassment to Republicans.

Bob Dornan, Wild Man. I wish there were a hundred more just like him.

"For over thousand years marauding Islamic warriors tried to conquer the known world. Then in 1683 A.D. after a two month siege of Vienna with the conquest of all Europe in the balance, Polish Calvary led by a 72 year old prince destroyed the Muslim forces on "September 11th". Osama picked that very date to strike America 318 years later. For three centuries the Muslim's assaults were bloody but confined to piracy, the Balkans and genocide of 1,500,000 Armenians while Europe typically turned its back. Now starting in the 1980's with increasing ferocity the dark side of Islamic expansionism has returned with a jealous vengeance and gone inter-continental." - Bob Dornan

Wimped out, eh? He won't run against Feinstein since that's political suicide in this state.

Same can be said about Asa Hutchinson. As great as some of the House Impeachment Managers were, that's how inept they were in later positions. It's quite puzzling.
