Leaders of the Reformed Church in America suspended a New Jersey minister, ruling that he violated the denomination's teachings by officiating at his lesbian daughter's wedding.
A majority of delegates voted Friday night to suspend the Rev Norman Kansfield from the ministry until he changes his views to fall in line with church doctrine. They also stripped him of his standing as a professor of theology in the RCA.
Kansfield, 65, who has served in the church for 40 years, said the decision was "going to be very hard to deal with - my life has been the ministry". "The church of Jesus Christ needs to be as inclusive as the arms of our Lord himself," he added.
He had performed his daughter's wedding ceremony last June in Massachusetts, shortly after it became the first state to allow same-sex marriages. Kansfield was dismissed in January from his presidency of one of the church's two seminaries.
The case against Kansfield, filed by dozens of church leaders, alleged that he acted intentionally against Bible teachings and the church constitution when he officiated at the wedding of his 29-year-old daughter Ann and her girlfriend. The women met while studying to be ministers at Kansfield's seminary.

Why can't these people understand the difference between inclusiveness and permissiveness, between immorality and repentance?
It makes me crazy.
There are a lot of others that this should happen to.
1. Your life should not have been "the ministry" - it should have been worthless, but for Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
2. The arms of the Lord are not open to the unrepentent and rebellious sinner. Your daughter isn't running to His arms, she is running away from Him.
People change, the Gospel of Jesus Christ remains as true today as when it was first written.
when any minister of the Christian faith rejects the teaching of Scripture and takes it upon himself to call
evil good and good evil he ceases to be a minister of God
and become a minister of satan and should so be considered until/unless he repents. Christ was inclusive--but Nowhere in the Holy Scripture did Christ EVER defy Scripture and declare good what is called "abomination"
""The church of Jesus Christ needs to be as inclusive as the arms of our Lord himself," he added."
Yes, but Christ said "Go and SIN NO MORE."
He didn't say "It's ok. Do what you want."
40 years and this still doesn't get it? Wow
They also don't know the difference between tolerance and acceptance, and don't have the capacity to see the long-term results of such actions.
His choice should've been to try to SAVE her instead of marrying her to some other gal. Duh.

Norm has a website.
Good question. I was always under the impression that Christianity's interest in sinners was primarily in reforming them, not pandering to their sins.
It would appear that he is running away also - either that or standing defiantly and glaring at Him. Sigh
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge,God gave them over to areprobat emind,to do those things which are not convienent." Romans 1:28 seems to me the Bible has the answer to every question.
