Straw attacks EU leaders
The Daily Telegraph ^ | June 18, 2005 | Staff

Jack Straw, the Foreign Secretary, has angrily accused other EU leaders of wanting a European Union "trapped in the past".

France, Germany and Luxembourg turned on Britain after talks to broker a new European budget collapsed.

But Mr Straw insisted Britain had the support of at least four other member states. And he said those attacking Britain were on the wrong side of the divide.

"Europe is divided," he said. "It is essentially a division between whether you want a European Union that is able to cope with the future or whether you want a European Union that is trapped in the past.

"That is the fundamental change before us. And it is not one Europe can dodge."

Jack Straw, the Foreign Secretary, has angrily accused other EU leaders of wanting a European Union "trapped in the past".

What exactly is that supposed to mean? Jack Straw wants a more "futuristic" EU? Dare I ask what that entails?

Is there a site that outlines (or can you summarize) Britain's main objectives regarding the EU?

I like seeing Chirac et al in their current situations, but it's more as a result of rooting against them rather than for their detractors.

EU Politicians are like diapers. They should both be changed frequently and for the same reason.

Straw means an EU that isn't run like France.

Simple, really.

I can tell you what we initially signed up for; our leaders at the time told us it was to facilitate trade between ourselves and Europe. No one ever dreamed it would get this far or this bad.

the jig is up on the "EU" as a whole.....the citizens of Europe as a whole do not want to surrender their sovereignty, and are beginning to look at it with that perspective......sufficient numbers of them have no wish to become subjects of "greater France" or whatever it is intended to morph into.....(at least that is what I hope)

Why would anyone want to give up their National Prde to become part of a giant con scheme run by a buch of money hungry con-men. Starting with Chirac. As with his stand on Iraq, there has got to be giant sums of money involve in this for him and the other, grifters.

I know he doesn't like France. That part didn't need to be explained. What I was asking is what he is for, not what he's against.

He's in favour of a more de-regulated, less socialist EU that works with America rather than obstructs it.

"Why would anyone want to give up their National Prde to become part of a giant con scheme run by a buch of money hungry con-men(?)."

The array of trade treaties the US has is the best reason for them to reject it......the treaties and the resulting effect on our industrial base abd employment.....hell, even a big chunk of our service industry has departed our shores already. America is being liquidated, and the EU will go the same way, as well as hurry Amerixa's liquidation along.......we need to become peasants with pitchforks while vigorously avoiding the naive proletarian pie-in-the-sky perspective initially used bt the bolsheviks.

I am looking forward to a change of government in Germany. Germany is the weak point in the Axis of Weasels, if they change sides, Chirac is dead, politically.

I am hoping Chirac is dead politically from the Referendam Row.
While Blair\Straw may not be conservative domestically, I'd rather hand them the power in Europe than that rat Chirac
