Vice President Dick Cheney slammed number two Senate Democrat Dick Durbin on Friday, saying his comparison of U.S. troops to Nazis was so "appalling" that he had to watch his language while discussing it.
Asked about Durbin's outburst, Cheney began by telling WWTN Nashville radio host Steve Gill: " I'm sure [this] a family program, Steve. I have to be careful what I say."
Then the VP leveled both barrels at the reckless Democrat's complaint that Guantanamo detainees are subject to Nazi-like treatment.
"I thought Durbin was totally out of line," Cheney said. "For him to make those comparisons was one of the more egregious things I'd ever heard uttered on the floor of the United States Senate . . . It was so far over the top that I'm just appalled that anybody who serves in the United States Senate would even think those thoughts."
Cheney said that Durbin couldn't be more wrong about how the GI prison guards behaved
"The fact of the matter," he told Gill, "is the situation at Guantanamo is being very well handled by our military. . . . [The terrorist detainees] are well housed. They're well fed. Their religious needs and desires are catered to. They're not being tortured or mistreated, but they are a major source of intelligence for us. Plus, we need to keep them off the streets."
Cheney reminded the Nashville audience that the Guantanamo guards have to handle some pretty rough customers.
"Remember what's happened here," he told Gill. "These are terrorists, these are bomb-makers. . . . these are hard-core terrorists is the only way to describe them. They're unlawful combatants. They're out to kill Americans. And if you put them back on the streets, that's exactly what they'll do."
The VP said it's clear that Durbin's comments have his fellow Democrats squirming, and hinted that he thought the scandal may force the top Democrat to walk the plank.
"I think they're swallowing hard," he told Gill. "We'll see what happens."
SH*T
SHINOLA
if we did as the democrats do, and turn the volume way up nationally,
then, durbin would have to resign.
Everyone acts like something is going to be done, nothing is going to happen. The leadership of the Democrat party hates America and they hate anyone who isn't under their control. They will destroy this country if they can't have power.
Expecting any kind of moral response from these people is foolish.
Cute line, but a mere pin-prick, Trish!
For 4+ years I've been waiting patiently for a Dem to be verbally drawn and quartered.
If Durbin didn't deserve it, who does?
This situation is beneath the response that the VP gave. Durbin ought to be called a simple, shimmering moron. A man making such a comment as Durbin's is not deserving of even slight respect.
We could sure use you in the Congress --- House or Senate sir?
Pre Keating-5, McCain would have uncorked.
How about that so called Demo Congressman from Washington state? Just as bad.
Both major tactical errors.
"Pre Keating-5, McCain would have uncorked."
Or is that "pre-Crissy Matthews love-fest"? :-D
Does anyone happen to know if Durbin is himself a veteran?
I don't think he is but can't find a definite answer.
I think the political version of the statement "character is who you are when no one is looking" should be "who you are when you THINK no one is looking or listening".
A few examples:
Flurch Munster in Chicago, thinking his mic was turned off, talking about the administration: "These guys...these guys are the most crooked--you know, lying group that I've ever seen."
The same Flurch Munster, after receiving tough questions on ABC: "My God, they're doing the work of the Republican National Committee." (Let's see: ABC, home of the RNC. Now THERE'S a connection I make every day.)
Finally, Flurch Munster again, at the Committee hearing to confirm Dr. Condoleezza Rice as Secretary of State (the initial 16 member panel), after voting NO, said "this is tedious". (I guess it was a little rough for the Senator to actually show up to work, to actually earn the pay that was involuntarily taken from the Massachusetts taxpayers...)
Flip the above statements, have them made by Republicans, and see if the media spikes them. (yeah, right)
Patty Murray?
Yep, nice high tree and a rope would be mighty apropos.
I think that most Americans think that the VP has that Grandfather like appeal and can be trusted. He's a patriotic man to say the least!
Did you send this message to his office? If not, I think you should.
This morning, during the rapidly-becoming unwatchable Weekend Fox 'n' Friends, the super RAT Ellen RATner continued Turban Durbin's assault. It's no longer interrogation; it's only torture, torture and more torture.
I think that most Americans think that the VP has that Grandfather like appeal and can be trusted. He's a patriotic man to say the least!
I had the same assessment of the VP, going into the Veep debate between the honorable Richard Bruce Cheney (thank you very much), assistant to six administrations, and the ambulance chasing "two Americas, mah dahd wuhked in ah meel" Breck Girl. I said that Cheney would clean his clock; I was right.
I am totally unfit for national politics. Because if I had heard stuff like Durbin, Kennedy, Bela Pelosi, Babs Botoxer, Maxine Waters (who I am ashamed to say is from my district), Lurch, Voinobitch, and so many others day after day, I would be weapons-grade nucular all the time.
Yep, pre-Chrissie and pre-MSM dalliances. I'm really rather surprised John hasn't seen the boost it would give him were he to speak out harshly.

There are times--especially in these times when words are sloshed about as carefully as Pollock's paints--when nonverbal responses MUST end the "argument." Whatever happened to roundhouse punches as debate-settlers? Why weren't Durbin's words seen as fightin'? Where were the "men" in the Senate that day?
