Wow - what an over reaction. All I said was no AFDC except to actual widows.

Apparently a large number of people need some incentive to stop acting like animals in rut.

There used to be orphanges and adoptions for children that were born out of wedlock if the women didn't want to raise them. Now adoption is so difficult and costly that many parents resort to spending tens of thousands for private adoptions through the classifieds, or just give up altogether.

One reason there are so many illegimitate children is the prospective rutters think that there's always welfare.

It's got to stop. One third of all births illegitimate is a shame to the nation. Children born to unwed mothers start off with a real handicap. It takes two to conceive, it takes two to raise a child properly.

I don't know how old you are, but when I was a teenager in the early 60's it was still considered shameful to have sex outside of marriage and to get pregnant before marriage. A little shame is needed, as well.

Yup. I'm personally familiar with a number of cases in which young women who accidentally get knocked up are delighted to find out how many resources are available to them, and make plans to increase their income by immediately having more children. I spend much of my day examining the medical records of OB patients at public clinics, and the progress notes record many such statements from the mothers. And of course, we are all paying for their profligate and selfish behavior, through our taxes.

You know, it was not originally prudery that caused our forefathers to despise and shun such women. The overwhelming selfishness of their licentious behavior caused great harm to society, not only through direct costs but by producing ne'er-do-well children. The contempt society showed to sluts was a serious motivation for girls to keep their legs together in a pre-birth control era. Today there is no such incentive, and we see the ruin society has fallen into.

Circular reasoning. There wouldn't BE welfare if men would be responsible for their offspring.

Shaming undwed pregnancy and birth will only result in more abortion.

What is needed is to make parents responsible for kids they co-create. This study seems to show that by being held responsible, unwed births go down.

I agree. Making men responsible for the kids they co-create seems to be providing that incentive.

How about if you have a child under 18 you can only marry the other parent. If you have two children under 18 from different parents, we throw you in jail for adultery?
