PETA: People Enabling Terrorist Atrocities

By Michael Fumento Published 06/15/2005

To hear the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals tell it, they're just animal lovers. They usually claim they simply want to ensure our furry and feathered friends aren't abused. In reality, they call humans "a cancer" and insist we all become become vegetarians. They also say that all animal testing, necessary for testing new drugs, be eliminated. "Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we'd be against it," says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk

Indeed, PETA's latest target is the world's largest medical experiment contracting lab, Covance of Vienna, Virginia. They've accused the company of committing horrors with laboratory monkeys, claiming they have video footage to back it up. Yet bizarrely the part they've released shows no such thing -- making a monkey out of PETA.

Great commentary on PETA. Good backround info on the bunny huggers.

Apparently there's some dissension among the ranks at PETA:

It's about time PETA's victims started fighting back. I think I would not be so kind. In addition to taking them to court, I'd also put out a few contracts on PETA executives or at least have them knee-capped! These people are basically cowards and after a few bloody noses they will leave you alone and go after softer targets.

Nah, that's normal. I think they think life as a pet is so bad, the animals are better off dead.

This is slightly off topic, but I caught a little of G. Gordon Liddy's radio show last week and he interviewed someone from PETA and totally stuck up for that organization. He drew a big distinction between PETA and the ALF (Animal Liberation Front?). I couldn't believe my ears. Did anyone else hear this? Is this typical for Liddy's show?

I didn't hear it. Do you have a link? PETA is different from ALF but having known many of their members, I know they give a wink and nod at ALF.

There IS no distinction between PETA and the ALF. Liddy is an idiot if he drew one. The ALF could not exist without the material, moral and legal support of PETA.

And it functions as a tax free charity group. Nice huh?

Just heard a report on WNIS (Norfolk) this morning that two PETA members have been arrested for dumping animal carcasses in a dumpster in Ahoskie, NC. According to the report, the animals were ALIVE when they were picked up at two animal shelters in the area.

Tony Macrini, morning show guy on WNIS, called them "People Exterminating The Animals"

I totally agree.

Sorry, I don't have a link. That is why I was asking if anybody else heard it. Yeah, I know that it is hearsay, but it was quite the "WTH" moment in my car as I was listening to the show.

I met a member in the ALF once in college. It was a very unnerving conversation.

Listened to it. I happen to agree. Pets shouldn't be given as gifts without informing the recipient first. Sounds like a PSA to me. I'll bet Liddy eats meat though and doesn't ascribe to many PETA beliefs.
