Well I question the wisdom of any man that thinks changing "french fries" to "freedom fries" sends a signal to France (they are actually Belgian in origin - if that means anything). It was actually a disgraceful display of demagoguery that reminded me of stories of how German Americans were treated during WW1 when we changed food names from their German origins (how hotdogs got their new non German name).

Jones ran for Congress as a Democrat. After he lost, he switched parties, and won as a Republican. He's a lick your fingers and stick them up to the wind kind of politician.. but he's certainly an indicator of which way the wind is currently blowing..

My German grandmother recalled that sauerkraut was renamed `liberty cabbage' during WW1 (my grandfather enlisted and served with distinction in the U.S. Army).
Seriously, we're in Iraq for the long haul and it's for this nation's good as well as the peoples of the region. I don't say this lightly. I'm 56, a Vietnam veteran and serving Army reservist who has already deployed and is eligible to do so again.
As for renaming, we reservists were subjected to a mandatory class on sexual harassment. A scenario described a superior giving a subordinate female a
French kiss. I stood up and said, "Excuse me, sir, but that's FREEDOM KISS!"
