WASHINGTON Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist says the autopsy released yesterday on Terri Schiavo (SHY'-voh) brings a "very sad chapter to a close."
The surgeon had questioned Schiavo's diagnosis during the debate last March on whether to remove her feeding tube. But he told A-B-C this morning the report shows Schiavo had devastating brain damage.
Frist says he never made his own diagnosis in the case. But he did argue there wasn't enough information on the woman's condition to justify removing her feeding tube. Frist helped push through emergency legislation aimed at prolonging Schiavo's life by allowing her case to be reviewed in federal court.
Commenting on C-B-S, Frist says the pathology shows the diagnosis was "exactly right," and he says it's time to move on.
Polls found most Americans opposed federal involvement in the case, and the issue helped contribute to a drop in approval ratings for the Republican-controlled Congress.
Emotion doesn't paralyze. It is freeing.
If you had any idea how many people out performed their autopsy results you be not be making such statements. That's why you won't see many MD's making similiar statements on these boards. Most know better.
I seriously doubt you were in the nursing field. You lack compassion for humanity.
Maybe for him, but the atopsy was nothing but a whitewash of Greer, Michael Schivo, and Felos.
Freeing? It has blinded many and caused good people to be liars. Perhaps you mean your faith is freeing, and you are entitled to that belief, but the TS brigade has proven to have been absolutely disabled and blinded by their emotion. Even now they reject the truth.
Frist makes me sick.
What a surprise that any vindication would instantly be characterized as a "whitewash". There is now literally no evidence which will dissuade peoples' belief in a Grand Conspiracy.
I believe that Michael was responsible for her being in the condition that she was in.
I believe that he got away with murder.
I believe that she was too alive to be killed.
You can believe as you wish.
What you said.
Worked for 25 years at the Veteran's Home. Don't tell me about compassion.
Like ABC news said, she died a peaceful death of dehydration not starvation. I am sure all Right to Pull The Pluggers would gladly die of dehydration if they were in her condition. Yeah, right.
Apt term for it.
On the internet anyone can be anything they wanna be. I make no bones about the fact I am not a doctor, and I don't have to be a doctor to comment on an ongoing news story thread. The fact that facts and common sense are being presented to you by someone like me who professes to be just a mere laymen bothers you. It also seems to bother you that your posts are being beaten down by the same subject matter being taught in high school biology. It's sad really, that you will not accept reality.
Perhaps that is why it took so long to compile and release. They needed to be sure it read word for word (including all the 'talking points')as a vindication for Terri's executioners.
As you say, this was not a "right to die" case. It was about upholding the decisions of a guardian. The media could never get that right. In the interest of "I won't call you on yours if you don't call me on mine" the media didn't want to look too closely at the guardian's infidelity to his spouse and seeming conflict of interest. I always wondered how the media would have handled this story if the positions had been reversed, if it were the wife shacking up with a new honey and wanting to pull the plug on hubby.
Well, at least Frist admitted to Schiavo's real state. He didn't exactly admit to being wrong, but close enough for government work.
You insult doctors everywhere with your so called medical expertise. Maybe basic A and P can be learned in high school, but it takes years to learn the integral relationships occuring between the various systems of the body. And believe me no doctor is still ever 100% sure of themselves.
But...maybe you're one of those who thinks a junior high school student is competent to make life and death medical decisions, based on the fact they understood 9th grade biology.
What exactly does "healthy" mean in your universe? In mine, people with half their brain left, blind, unable to swallow, speak, with their limbs contorted and twisted, aren't healthy.
Well, if you call Googling for the information at Google University Search an insult, or going to WebMD an insult, so be it. No skin off my nose.
THURSDAY AFTERNOON - BREAKING NEWS: I think the Republican Party is trying to do something proper (too bad they waited until Terri was gone) but nonetheless, Governor Jeb Bush today held a press conference wherein he announced that he is asking State Attorney Bernie McCabe to investigate why it took so long for Michael Schiavo to get help for Terri while she was lying on the floor in the collapse. It was on local television.
