It's merely a contradiction. Not to mention the fact that your payment card or check is easily both tracable and exceeding likely to be downloaded into a file.
National Geographic is now run by activist journalists - the PR division of GangGreen. They see nothing wrong with such contradictions. And the $99 looks good to 'em.
Trust the nice activist journalist - just sign on the dotted line. And sign the informed consent form send the $99.

$99 is actually a bargain for this type of test, but even better is that they're using the money to fund genetic testing on indigenous groups all over the world. I am SO looking forward to those results.
For example, one fascinating study of DNA recently showed that modern day Jews are closely related to Kurds, who live in Northern Iraq. Maybe from when they were in captivity in Babylon?
