McCain-Jeb Ticket for 2008?
NewsMax ^ | 6/15/05

Is a McCain-Jeb Bush 2008 ticket in the offing?

Some Washington insiders think so.

If McCain is to get the Republican nomination for the 2008 election, he’ll need the support of President George Bush.

Recently, NewsMax reported that President Bush’s top media adviser had signed on with McCain for his expected 2008 run.

Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne writes that before McKinnon announced his support of McCain, got wind of the McCain-Jeb possibility.

Dionne says "a shrewd and loyally Democratic political operative with personal ties to the McCain” told him that choosing Florida Gov. Jeb Bush as his running mate could be the key to McCain’s success.

McCain was estranged from George W. Bush after the Arizona senator ran against him in the 2000 primaries. But then in 2004, McCain brushed aside unofficial offers from John Kerry to run as his vice presidential candidate, and gave a speech at the Republican National Convention that was strongly supportive of Bush’s policies in Iraq.

And Bush would like to hand over power to a Republican, like McCain, who is committed to his Iraq policy.

Other front-runners for the Republican nomination are Rudy Giuliani and Condi Rice. But Washington Republicans don't fully trust Rudy -- who had a history of bucking the party as Mayor of New York.

And Condi Rice is said to be preferred by the White House as Bush's successor. But so far, Rice has indicated she won't run.

That leaves McCain.

"The president could well come to see McCain as the only Republican with a chance to push a Republican era forward,” says Dionne. "McCain, in turn, knows that his only way around the Republican right is to run with Bush’s open blessing, if not his outright endorsement.”

Bush’s brother could be the "deal-closer,” according to Dionne. "If picking Jeb is the price of winning over George W., McCain will pay it.”

He endorsed Dole...albeit quite belatedly and he wasn't invited to the GOP convention that year because of his lackluster support. I think you are probably thinking about his endorsement of Cuomo over Pataki in 1994.

"I thought that Jeb did an excellent impersonation of Pontius Pilate during the Terri Schiavo debacle."

And during Easter Week too.

Jeb is unelectable because of that.

McCain is unelectable because he played Lucy with the football to the Republicans on the nuclear option.

Cheney/Rice is the ticket.

I've come to the conclusion that I am no longer a Republican. I'm a conservative.

Florida is a MESS! Sure Jeb won the elections, lot of stupidity in that State.

McCain kisses the butt of every powerful democrat he can find and opposes free speech, ie."Election Reform".

They are Losers, allright, of the highest order.

I wouldn't vote for Mc Cain if he was the last person on earth.....not only NO but HELL NO!!!

And Jeb has to much class and smarts to associate with an idiot RINO like Mc Cain.

ARA in Arizona just denouced him because of some of the things he has done that they didn't like, last I heard they sent off their voices to the State to have him recalled on that level....Arizona isn't happy with the little toe head.

Well NEWSMAX, wimpish Republicans that buy the spin only he can beat Hillary and Democrats can forget it. McCain is a NO. I won't vote for him. Enough conservatives will not vote for him that he would lose.

They need to get over it now. Fours years of selected not elected didn't change my opinion of G.W. and I voted for him. Four years of McMaverick promotion will not make me change my stand either. Nor will a VP pick make him acceptable.

I agree with you in that they both have sever problems and certainly do not appeal to this base.

I was just pointing out that you should come up with a better handle than "losers" for these two because, while they are a lot of bad things, they are demonstrably not "losers".

Try tommyfranks.com. I can't get to it from work. Otherwise he sparked my interest during the last campaign season I think during the GOP convention. I do not recall exactly all it was he said, but it struck me that the man had a great deal of common sense. He was definitely trashing Kerry, but he did it in a diplomatic way that only a soldier can. Bottom line is we need a real man with some real big brass balls to do the job. I not only want someone who can stand up to terrorists, Iran, Syria, China, etc., but also someone who can stand up to the gosh danged liberal commies in this country. I think a Washington Outsider is the only place to find that.

Exactly. McCain is a user. He uses the GOP. He uses the Democrats. He uses the media. He wants power, and that's exactly why he shouldn't have it.

McCain is the one Republican candidate who would insure that any Dim would win; which is why the MSM/Dims love and promote him so much - he is what he is, a spoiler.
