I loved the music, our class song (class of 65) was "Climb Every Mountain", and liked the movie. One of my most first memories of my wife was of her singing "Edelweiss" at a camp talent show.

It did give a somewhat false impression of Austria as being taken over by the Nazis. They joined Germany very willingly.

I've got an Austrian friend who says no.

He was high up in the Austrian military at the time. He was also Jewish. He escaped from a concentration camp during the war. Most of his family was killed.

He says it was a small but loud cadre of Nazi sympathizers, and that most people were cowed by the assassination of Dollfuss.
