Well, you and I can pretend that illegals can't arrive via water, but that won't stop them. Ask the people in Miami. It's also the preferred route for drug smuggling because the odds of being caught are less. If you seal the land routes, they will just increase usage of the water routes.

You simply can't use the same rates for those. It's just plain silly and hyperbolic.

We have to start somewhere, rod. Or, do you want us to become the welfare capital of the world?

"We have to start somewhere,"

But the place to start may not be on the border. We already catch 1/3rd to 3/4ths of attempted border jumpers. We can never catch 100%. I can't see that our increases in border security has cut down on the total number of illegals at all.

The better way, in my opinion is to address the problems at the local level as needed. If Dallas is happy with the level and conduct of illegals in their city, leave it alone. If FT Worth is unhappy with the impact illegals are having on their city, bring in ICE to bust the employers.

You have to address the demand side of the equation by giving employers all the legal immigrants they need, or by putting them out of business. Killing businesses is like killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
