Oriana Fallaci

Somehow I get her mixed up with Camille Paglia, the American art and literary critic who is also something of a maverick in liberal circles. I recently went to a Paglia book signing, and I'm glad I didn't praise her for "The Rage and the Pride." Would have been my "potatoe" moment.

Both are brilliant women but Paglia, by the way - unless she has changed - has always been an Edward Said Arabist-type.

I thought that Oriana Fallaci had become an American citizen and was not held to stupid European laws. I guess I was wrong again!
