Charges filed in rape, slaying of student
NEWARK, DELAWARE -- A man was charged Monday with murdering a University of Delaware student found raped and strangled in the bathtub of her burned apartment.
Authorities said they had physical evidence linking James Cooke Jr., 34, to the crime, but wouldn't elaborate.
Cook was charged with murder, arson, rape and burglary.
Lindsey Bonistall, 20, a sophomore from White Plains, N.Y., who was majoring in English and journalism, was found dead on May 1.

Cooke, who was released from a New Jersey prison in December 2002 after serving about 3{ years for theft and other charges, moved from southern New Jersey to Delaware late last year, authorities said....
Cooke has a criminal record in New Jersey that includes convictions for theft, resisting arrest, riding in a stolen vehicle, drug possession and distributing drugs on school property.

Execute him.

I hope delaware has the death penalty...
I am sooo sick of seeing stories like these. When are we, as a society, going to say enough is enough??
It does.
She has a sweet, innocent look about her. Really sad.
Yes, but there have only been 13 executions since 1976.
"Yes, but there have only been 13 executions since 1976."
Well that's better than NJ has done.
Jesse Jackson will get him off.
The early release of criminals into society: to rape, murder pillage and burn is simply a method to demoralize the society at large and cause them (you) to cry out to the government to come to the rescue, take over and protect them (you). The criminals are simply being used to wear us down and become more dependent on the government who by the way would just love to federalize all local law enforcement. Would you venture to ask the question "Why"?
Wonder if the races were opposite if this would be front page news on every liberal newspaper - ?

Thomas J. Capano
There is an article in the News Journal either this morning or yesterday - that he is also wanted in New Jersey and is linked to an earlier home invasion in Newark.
Gosh, your post is scary and I hope you're not right, but I'm afraid you are.
He needn't worry. SCOTUS is about to again ban the death penalty so as to be more in line with European sensibilities...
Cooke also has been charged in four home invasions that occurred last week in Atlantic City, N.J., police there said Monday. Newark police said from the outset that they thought the man who committed the home invasion also killed Bonistall. On Monday, Newark police said Cooke was a stranger to Bonistall and to the victim of the earlier home invasion. "From all indications, it's totally random," said Capt. William F. Nefosky, who oversaw the investigation.
Police say 'physical evidence' ties James E. Cooke Jr. to Bonistall case
I saw that, but since Gannett is stingy (to be as kind as possible), you're not even allowed to excerpt from Delaware Online articles. Thanks though!
That's why only do it in the thread - and never post the articles :)
