Investigators of the U.N. oil-for-food program said Tuesday they are "urgently reviewing" new information that suggests U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan may have known more about a contract that was awarded to the company that employed his son.
The December 1998 memo from Michael Wilson, then a vice president of Cotecna Inspections S.A., mentions brief discussions with Annan "and his entourage" during a summit in Paris in 1998. "We could count on their support," the memo said.
If accurate, the memo could contradict a major finding of the Independent Inquiry Committee - that there wasn't enough evidence to show that Annan knew about efforts by Cotecna, which employed his son, Kojo, to win a contract under oil-for-food. Cotecna learned it won the contract on Dec. 11, 1998.
The statement from the Independent Inquiry Committee, led by former Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, said it would "conduct additional investigation regarding this new information."
In a statement released earlier Tuesday, Cotecna again denied that it committed any wrongdoing in obtaining the $10 million a year contract.
With his own son neck deep and Kofi's directionless ruling, not surprising that hard evidence has surfaced that Kofi is neck deep in the graft and corruption of the oil for food.
"...not surprising that hard evidence has surfaced that Kofi is neck deep in the graft and corruption..."
No surprise at all. This is how things work in Africa. I'm sure Kofi was simply conducting business as usual in the context of 3rd world politics.
I bet it does.
Just like Islam, unless the UN censors itself, it will not last another century.
Or we won't!
got me by 15 seconds. ;-)
Great news!
LOL Great minds think alike! I hope this sticks! Annan is sooo slippery.
It's gonna be a long hot summer at the UN and a new cool guy, John Bolton , will be there to help ride herd over 'reform' real soon. :-)
Lots of fireworks ahead, for sure.
Should be fun to watch the U.N. go down. I can't wait! The U.N. is a useless piece of wasteproduct!
O.F.F. ping....
This is far too obvious. In the meantime, Annan has had about twelve months to sanitize files and records.
Hmmmm but you never know maybe someone put this memo aside hoping to take down Annan - LOL maybe Bubba (he want's his job ya know!) ;-)
I tend to agree, that's how the third world conducts business. Kofi's son drives around in limos while people in Africa suffer, and both father and son are indifferent. The King of Swaziland takes on his 12th bride while the people suffer and nobody complains. Total selfishness and total indifference is what's valued.
(The United States is the single largest monetary contributor to the United Nations - WE KEEP THE DOORS OPEN!)

"But it was the weasels who scuppered any return to business-as-usual. Messrs Chirac and de Villepin barely paused for breath before moving on from their pre-war sabotage programme to a revised post-war sabotage programme."
The United Nations Wants to TAX you!
"Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali ... urged the [UN] to consider imposing its own taxes to become less dependent on the United States...."
-Washington Times, January 16, 1996
Are you concerned that...
...numerous taxation schemes to finance the UN are being considered?
Economist James Tobin proposed in 1972 that the UN be the recipient of a tax of 0.05% on foreign exchange transactions. In 1993, the Ford Foundation produced Financing an Effective United Nations, a report containing recommendations that the UN tax airline traffic, shipping, and arms sales. In 1995, the UN-funded Commission on Global Governance suggested that the UN collect levies from those who use "flight lanes, sea lanes for ships, ocean fishing areas, and the electromagnetic spectrum." Ultimately, of course, the burden of all taxation falls on consumers.
Are you concerned that...
...a State Department study specifically proposed giving the UN taxing power and, ultimately, control of the world?
In 1962, the State Department financed a study entitled "A World Effectively Controlled by the United Nations." The report outlined what would be needed for such a total world government: "a mandatory universal membership," an ability to use "physical force," and "compulsory jurisdiction" of its courts. One of the UN's "principle features," stated the report, would be "enforceable taxing powers." (Emphasis added.)
Are you concerned that...
...no matter how much our nation gives, the UN will never be satisfied?
In addition to hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars in foreign aid, our nation has provided the UN with tens of billions more for its programs since 1945. Currently, U.S. contributions make up 25% of the UN's annual budget. But, in his May 2001 speech at Notre Dame University, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan complained with a typical anit-American attitude, "It is shameful that the United States ... should be one of the least generous in terms of helping the world's poor."
Are you concerned that...
...taxing authority would fuel an unaccountable UN Superstate?
Former UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali said of a UN tax: "We would not be under the daily financial will of member states who are unwilling to pay up." UN Founder Harlan Cleveland made the same point in Futures: Rather than relying on "the worn-out policy of year-to-year decisions by individual governments" (about how much to give the UN), "what's needed is a flow of funds for development which are generated automatically under international control." And there would be no Congress to limit the UN's appetite for your tax dollars!
The United Nations Wants to Take Your Land!
"Private land ownership ... contributes to social injustice.... Public control of land use is therefore indispensable."
- United Nations "Habitat I" Conference Report, 1976
Are you concerned...
...that the UN is militantly anti-property rights?
The UN is dominated by socialist, communist, and other collectivist regimes that are hostile to private property, the basis of our freedom and prosperity. Karl Marx wrote in the Communist Manifesto that "the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: abolition of private property." Marx continued: "In one word, you reproach us with intending to do away with your property. Precisely so; that is just what we intend."
Are you concerned...
...that the UN intends to carry out Marx's plan?
In true Marxist fashion, the report of the UN "Habitat I" Conference declares that private land ownership "contributes to social injustice.... Public control of land use is therefore indispensable...." Agenda 21, the UN's massive environmental manifesto, envisions a UN empowered to control and micro-manage our planetary environment and the actions of every person on Earth. It says: "All countries should undertake a comprehensive national inventory of their land resources" and "develop national land-management plans." The UN's Assessment would "reallocate" property rights and have "stakeholder groups," instead of property owners, make decisions on private land use.
Are you concerned...
...that our own U.S. government is adopting many of the UN's anti-property rights and policies and treaties?
The U.S. has signed Agenda 21 and has begun implementing the UN's "Wildlands Project," an incredible plan to push millions of Americans off their land to make vast nature preserves out of half of the nation. Also, under the UN's 1988 Convention on Narcotics, the U.S. has adopted unconstitutional "asset forfeiture" laws that allow seizure of property without due process.
Are you concerned...
...that UN treaties could destroy our heritage of freedom?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. NEW HAMPSHIRE OUT OF U.N. NEW HAMPSHIRE INTRODUCES RESOLUTION TO GET US OUT OF UNNobel Prizewinning economist, Friedrich A. Hayek, noted that "the system of private property is the most important guaranty of freedom, not only for those who own property, but scarcely less for those who do not. It is only because the control of the means of production is divided among many people acting independently that nobody has complete power over us, that we as individuals can decide what to do with ourselves."

The State of New Hampshire continues to introduce what some would call unusual resolutions, but considered constitutional and vital in protecting America's soverignty by supporters. This new bill in their legislature states:
2005 SESSION/05-0002/05/01 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1
A RESOLUTION urging Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations.
This resolution urges Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations.
STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Five
A RESOLUTION urging Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations.
"Whereas, the United States is the greatest nation in the world and is known for its compassionate people who are generous and kind in caring for the needs of those in other countries and whose resources are used worldwide to alleviate hunger and poverty; and
"Whereas, the United States is called upon to defend the rights and freedoms of people in other nations as only we have the capacity to do so as a world superpower; and
"Whereas, these responsibilities create an immense burden on the citizens of this country, many of whom are in need and living in poverty themselves; and
"Whereas, United States military forces are called upon to bear the brunt of any conflicts that may arise while other nations stay on the sidelines and expect the United States to fight its battles; and
"Whereas, the United States provides the largest share of the financial burden for the United Nations, paying hundreds of millions of dollars each year that could be used to address many of the nation's challenges, including homelessness, education, law enforcement, poverty, a strong military, and the war against terrorism; and
"Whereas, many of the members of the United Nations are not friendly to the United States and support many things that are detrimental to the country and against its interests, yet expect the United States to provide the finances and manpower to solve all of the world's problems, even putting the lives of the nation's military forces in danger; now, therefore, be it
"Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
"That the New Hampshire general court respectfully but firmly requests that the United States Congress:
"I. Take measures to dissolve the membership of the United States in the United Nations, thereby freeing the nation from a large financial burden and retaining its sovereignty to decide what is best for the country; and
"II. Take the steps that it considers appropriate as the leader of the free world, with full control of its armed forces and destiny; and
"That a copy of this resolution, signed by the speaker of the house of representatives and the president of the senate, be forwarded by the house clerk to the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members of the New Hampshire congressional delegation.
"New Hampshire has also in the past introduced an "AN ACT (HB 1193) establishing a committee to study the constitutionality of the federal income tax and constitutional abuses in the collection of the income tax and its effects on New Hampshire citizens. This bill establishes a committee to study the constitutionality of the federal income tax and constitutional abuses in the collection of the income tax, specifically as it affects New Hampshire citizens.
"HJR 23 introduced in 2004 dealt with election law, specifically "This joint resolution urges Congress to transmit to the states for ratification an amendment to the United States Constitution returning the authority to choose United States Senators to the state legislatures."
"According to retired Judge J.J. Boesel, America's participation in the United Nations is unconstitutional because it violates many clauses of the U.S. Constitution and violates the rights of the individual states of the Union under the Tenth Amendment. This bill in the New Hampshire General Court (state legislature) is new and is now in committee.
here.
If this doesn't force the SOB to resign, they'll have to take him in chains, kicking and dragging, while being maced, out the front doors of the UN.....
And my tax dollars are going to keep these rotten African governments going? I don't think so.
Great post. Thanks for all that info.
GET US OUT OF THE UN!!!! I do NOT want my tax dollars going there. So much for the romantic African continent.
Can't wait for Bolton to kick booty!
Like son, like father.
