If 64 out of the 128 seats go to Christians, why do only 34 go to Maronites? I thought Maronites comprised the overwhelming majority of Lebanese Christians, with relatively small groups of Syrian uniates, Greek Catholics, East Orthodox, etc. (Then again, my greatgrandparents were Maronites from Lebanon and maybe I just assumed incorrectly.)
Maronites constitute approximately 55% of total Christians in Lebanon. Thus there 34 seats out of 64 is "almost" representative of their total numbers. The Greek and Syriac Orthodox (Eastern Orthodox) constitute approximately 25% of total Christians in Lebanon and the remaining are Greek Catholics (Melkites) and Armenians Orthodox.
