Here's the deal. Every prosecution of a celebrity is a difficult and expensive prosecution, especially in California. Let the good citizens of California draft and pass a proposition that grants immunity from criminal prosecution to all celebrities. They are our royalty, and they obviously deserve to be treated as such, right?

That would put the Meseareus out of business and save tons of taxpayer money. And your tender soul wouldn't be vexed by "incompetent" and "heavy-handed" prosecutions in the case of celebrities.

If that proves workable, let them pass a proposition banning all prosecutions, regardless of celebrity or lack thereof.

I am not particularly concerned about celebrities. I am very concerned about hardworking citizens who have been targeted for prosecution by bureaucrats on the basis of paperwork mistakes and don't have the resources of a Michael Jackson to defend themselves. Such things happen all the time.

I am also concerned about all the good people who used to work for Arthur Andersen and lost their livelihoods and retirements because of the actions of overzealous prosecutors in Houston.

These are things I know about from personal experience. And because of this personal experience, I am far less likely to believe prosecutors than I was ten years ago.
