I don’t watch the Bill Maher show on HBO. I haven’t thought much about him since he had a show on ABC and implied that the 9/11 attackers were courageous for flying hijacked planes into buildings and killing 3,000 people. At the same time, Maher said that the U.S. was cowardly for attacking terrorist bases in Afghanistan by launching cruise missiles from ships at sea. He is supposed to be a comedian but also tries to come across as someone who makes serious and thoughtful points about political issues.
We had to take another look at Maher because after he lost his ABC show he was picked up by Time Warner’s HBO, where he recently declared that the U.S. was facing a military recruiting crisis because we had already picked enough “low-lying Lynndie England fruit,” a reference to the soldier on trial for abusing Iraqi prisoners, and were in need of “warm bodies” for the front lines.
It should be self-evident that we are a nation at war, and that our ability to win this war depends on having a military that can fight and win. When a media personality, even one as obscure as Maher, demeans our service personnel with unfair charges and dishonest stereotypes, he is giving aid and comfort to the enemy...[more]

He did NOT say that the US Military were cowards, but that the LEADERSHIP (CLINTON) was a coward for the way they operated. Lauching cruise missles from hundreds of miles away at empty buildings and aspirin factories.
Maher was correct.
Even Rush Limbaugh defended him on his comments.
Maher may be an ass sometimes but he is no Hanoi Jane.
Plus Maher was right about the terrorists. Evil though they were, they were not without physical courage.
It's dangerous to underestimate one's enemy. Maher was calling out the government on that one, and he was right.
But the truth is more complicated than an easy slam against someone from the other political camp, so he'll continue to be tagged with this canard.
Yes, one of my pet peeves is when people try to dismiss evil people as insane, or gutless. Sometimes, you have to face the reality they are just evil.

It is to most however, there are those that declare how patriotic they are while making horrible accusations about America being in Iraq – why, Saddam had no ties to terrorism; Iraq would be better off if that man were still in charge, some even go so far as to call Saddam’s demise an illegal ‘Regime Change’ the President lied; The President didn’t lie, he had the same intelligence that the United Nations and everyone else had he just had the courage to do something about it; this is an unjust war and so on ad-nauseam. The knee-jerk reaction to Abu Ghraib nonsense; the Downing Street Memo; the erroneous filibuster explanations; the erroneous social security discourse from truly stupid talking heads.
It just goes on and on from the anti-American left as they help the terrorists day in and day out while subjecting our Troops to more danger than necessary.
The anti-American leftists like Jane Fonda, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Hillary Clinton, who smears her country and the Military by shredding our President here at home and where ever she is over-seas. These people are just a few of those who do not want America to be a success in Iraq and they with the help of a biased MSM & MSP are waging the same propaganda war they did with Viet Nam; they started it by letting John Kerry run for POTUSA and carry that same treasonous blather helping the terrorists enormously. Rather than fight the terrorists, the left wants to appease them; throw some money at them to leave most of us alone – so they take a Twin Tower down now and again or blow up a shopping center, or ship, so what! We’re not spending all that money on the Military, we can spend it on Social Reforms – Social Engineering and cradle to grave un-constitutional entitlements – what’s that…..Unconstitutional? Oh really! You gonna let that scrap of history stand in the way of a completely Socialized America?
Bill Maher needs to define his choice of words and history more clearly.
What Bill Maher thinks and says seems to be far too important to some people. Even negative attention benefits him. I say we dismiss him from our vocabulary.

no-talent nobodies.....suddenly become "stars" when liberals throw money at them and keep telling the rest of us how talented they are. Voila! They then become "intellectuals"

A 'Fair & Balanced' BILL MAHER would have been complaining equally on National TV about the CLINTONS' refusing to bring our No. 1 Terrorist Enemy OSAMA bin LADEN to the USA as offered during the 1990's...
...as BILL MAHER is now about BUSH fighting him.

You're missing the point of his comments, I think. He wasn't slamming Bush specifically. His comments could just as easily be an indictment of Clinton's asprin-factory bombing as well.
His point was only that by calling the terrorists who brought down the towers "cowards," you underestimate them. And underestimating them might make us feel better, but is counterproductive for just that reason.
I have no problem with his comments on that issue. I prefer a cold, hard assesment of our enemies rather than mushy feel-good talk. What's to argue with that?

BILL MAHER's labeling all our heroic Freedom-Fighting U.S. Military with the same shameful LYNDIE ENGLAND brush on National TV is designed to undercut BUSH's promise to protect us by bringing Freedom to the oppressed peoples & cultures of the world.
BILL MAHER should have exposed the CLINTON missile strikes on Afghanistan & the Sudan as the diversions they really were away from the CLINTONS own worst misbehaviors on behalf of our terrorist enemies over the decades.
That would be a more honest TV Commentary than what came out of BILL MAHER's mouth after the Attacks of September 11, 2001.
And, by the way, I wouldn't paint JetLiner highjackers who slit the throats of innocent non-weapon carrying American Flight Attendants as being anything close to courageous.
