"The intelligent design hypothesis is clearly not theological - it has no doctrine, no articles of faith, no Holy writ"

Except the part where an *intelligent designer* makes everything. But that's not God, nope. Sure.

They only resort to the ID position because the Creationist position is completely untenable. ID is only slightly less so.

you: Except the part where an *intelligent designer* makes everything. But that's not God, nope. Sure.

Er, the intelligent design hypothesis is not an origin-of-life hypothesis either.

BTW, you might want to check out the "time before time" link for a comparison of cosmologies.

Of course its not God, just some alien with Godlike powers. With the ability to surpass light speed, visit our planet, either seed the planet or modify the existing building blocks such that our human intelligence results, knowing beforehand what is necessary, they might as well be gods.

Just a bunch of aliens with powers we would consider godlike. Probably still here, abducting cows and humans, prodding them where the sun don't shine, checking to see if their work is proceeding as planned, and wondering where they went wrong with the code. Of course it was the cows that were supposed to evolve directed intelligence not monkeys. Even godlike aliens make mistakes.

An observation I've made while I've been a participant in this particular melee is that the attempt to secularize ID is transparent only to those that don't have a religious stake in its popularization. Unless ID proponents are willing to accept some alien as the perp, should definitive proof ever arise, ID is, and can only be theology masquerading as science.
