I was responding to the woman in the article who was from Washington DC, who obviously does not carry ccw. For her, she might think it could happen in any city, because she cannot defend herself in any city.
As far as it being silly, the crime rates against armed women, esp kidnapping and murder, are practically zero. I dont call not dying : "silly".
This woman was fortunate that she was from Alabama, a state that allows women as young as 18, even if they are still in high school, to carry a concealed weapon. It isnt silly if no other 18 year old woman in Alabama or Florida was NOT killed over spring break because they were armed.
I think you can look at being armed as more than having a physical weapon. You an be armed with the wisdom not to put yourself in risky situations. Anyplace in the world can be deadly when one engages in wreckless behavior. And many places that are considered dangerous can be safer if one is cautious.
Sandy, I don't believe Alabamians can travel out of the country with a gun regardless of permits.
"Fortunate that she was from Alabama?" Unfortunatley, she was in Aruba when she went missing. Are you saying that there were women from Florida and Alabama who were on spring break that were targeted for murder who just happened to have a gun ready and they saved themselves? Gee, I guess I just didn't hear about those incidents. Do you know the statistics on how many women have been murdered or kidnapped during spring break in the past 10 years? If you do, please share, then we can compare it to the girls who were on spring break this year who carried weapons and successfully defended themselves.
