Feingold tests presidential waters for '08

FAIRCHILD, WIS. -- When Sen. Russ Feingold came here for his 893rd listening session, retired teacher Roland Mead popped a blunt question: "How does President Russ Feingold sound to you?"

"Like a lot of work," Feingold replied, moving quickly to the next question.

The third-term Wisconsin Democrat says it is too soon to decide whether he will run for president in 2008, but he is looking and sounding like a candidate, promising to travel to all 50 states to make the case for his party.

In Washington, Feingold's name is on all the short lists of possible candidates, creating a buzz among liberals. In Wisconsin, where Feingold received more votes than any other candidate in state history last fall, voters are trying to figure out if their senator's recently announced divorce will affect his national prospects.

"Is this Feingold's second divorce?" asked Mead, an independent voter from Eau Claire, sitting at a back table at the Empty Pockets tavern after Feingold left town.

"He's not home enough," replied Bob Henning, a Democrat and a retired locomotive engineer, also from Eau Claire.

'Nobody's business'

While some observers say that a twice-divorced single man could never get elected president, others say his personal life is nobody's business.

So "McCain/Feingold" was just a tryout? Good, rescind it.

With Dean leading the party, having Feingold as its Presidential candidate would ensure its collapse. Unfortunately, I don't think this guy has the support he needs. The Dems are ridiculous.

Or maybe Fool's Gold. It would be too good to be true to have this guy as a target.

The Democrats would never nominate a Jew for a president, even a self-hating Jew like Feingold.

Sorry, I couldn't resist it. I don't get that chance too often you know. THAT's why everyone goes away when I come into a room.

That'll be right up my alley. Sounds like fun. My favorite thing to do is to trade one-liners with someone on some mundane topic. I can use sarcastic "humor" too.
When someone insults me, I just agree with them and put myself down even more and the person goes away. But I'm "evolving" away from that somewhat, except for the creation/evolution list.
