I don't know where you have been for the last five (5) years, but the next sentence contains a news flash for you.
The AFL-CIO has been supporting amnesty for illegal aliens since February 2000. Here is a link to a February 16, 2000, press release by the AFL-CIO supporting amnesty for illegal aliens.

That's exactly what opponents of illegal immigration want to happen, for foreigners who want to come to the U.S. as a guest worker to apply from their home countries.
