You and I don't often agree, but we agree here. Of course we can't KNOW -- we weren't there. But the story sounds to me more like: daughter of devout Catholic parents feels she can't tell them what really happened, so she made up the rape story. I hope all goes well for her, regardless of what really happened. But I really feel sorry for kids whose parents are so "devout" that their kids can't talk to them about the normal activities of normal teens and young adults.
A few years back, this mentality killed a pregnant college student. She hadn't told her "devout Catholic" parents she was pregnant, and apparently hadn't told anyone but her boyfriend for fear of how the parents would react when they found out. She miscarried quite a late term fetus (IIRC it was still barely alive when they found her) in a toilet stall of the dorm bathroom and bled to death there -- while her "devout" parents were sound asleep at home, confident that their virginal daughter was safe at college.
If she was at college, she was at least 18 and an adult. She could have sought help at the infimary. The mentality of the parents was not to blame.
