Just curious, why not? I use the word populist as an adjective pertaining to the common, average voter- Why do you see "conservative" and the "average guy" as mutually exclusive? Populism leans towards the left on economic issues and uses class warfare which is Marxist by definition.
Class warfare is wrong no matter who uses it.
I'll have none of that. I would call the adjective 'populist' an epithet.

Crawford is also a regular spit-swapper with Olbermann on his show, too......

Crawford... substituted for Ron Reagan in the liberal seat on MSNBC's dreadful "Connected Coast-to-Coast" program.
I remember him from the Orlando Sentinel, when he was calling for Clinton's impeachment.
I posted to discuss where the GOP and Dubya should be as to pocketbook issues as we approach 2006, because obviously, I didn't agree with this Crawford's view. Now I see why.
Regret that I posted- or at least, w/o a "barf alert". The thread did not result in the discussion that I had hoped for.

If the next 9-11 sneaks across the borders Bush has left wide open, he should and will be impeached for gross dereliction of duty.
U.S. Constitution Article 4 Section 4:
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,
and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"
Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]
1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

I see. I believe you're correct that there was, at one time a Populist Party, which was left leaning.
There is an acceptable use of the term which connotes the interest of the "common person"-
In my view, the average working person will vote in 2006 based on his/her frustration with "illegal" immigrants and the price of gasoline and heating oil- pocket book issues that I believe effect the conservative base. I don't envision that as "class warfare", I just see that as political reality.
However, that's just my view. Certainly, I see your point, respect your position.

Respectfully Travis, illegal immigration didn't suddenly happen on Dubya's watch. I certainly don't think he is open for impeachment as to this continuing problem.
I do think that the GOP is missing an opportunity by not feeling the pulse of the people, such as yourself, who are royally fed up with illegals.
McCain led amnesty is not the proper solution- nor the efforts of other GOP legislators who are seeking to save a source of cheap labor.
Illegal means illegal- it's altogether proper for the GOP to stand on that principle- and imo, it is always the will of the average American. Thus, it's both right, and politically advantageous for the GOP to get on the populist side of this issue.

Craig Crawford is most definitely not a conservative. He is the boringly familiar Eastern Limousine Liberal. At least if he was one of those really out-there liberals like Christopher Hitchens, he might be interesting or provocative. Crawford is a typical elitist who has total distain for Red State America.

6S,
Agree with you as to the evocative Hitchens who, at rare times of sobriety, does find himself conceding to the logic of conservatism.

For starters, though, he has to stop talking so much. There is too much Bush-speak out there. All we heard about throughout his first term was how he never held press conferences, how no other President in history had held so few. Now he holds regular pressers, which the media uses to do nothing but savage and ridicule him. I have never seen such disrespect and outright contempt for a sitting President than I see when the media "questions" him at these press conferences, yet he continues to hold them anyway.
And now they whine that he holds too many press conferences. They must be afraid that too much of what he says is getting past them unspun.

Craig Crawford is doing what he does best, knocking the President and all Republicans. He is a favorite of the lefties.
