Do you just be still and see how big its going to be and hope its small? Or do you go outside so that things dont fall on you?
Just wondering, here in Tx we run to the closet for tornado warnings.
If it is still shaking after ten seconds it is time to put on the boots and if it is still shaking after the boots are on it is time to stand in a doorway. Doorways are the strongest feature of a house, least likely to collapse. The only problem with doorways is that witches hang out there so you shouldn't stand in the doorway any longer than necessary.
It really depends on the situation. For instance, I was in my garage when a pretty good 5.1 hit a few miles away, and seeing the appliances dance around was a good cue to get out of there and into the back yard so I wouldn't have to dodge something like a waltzing freezer.
If it's just a little roller, I generally wait until it stops (and go back to sleep if it is too early to get out of bed.)
not so many people in the closet here in San Francisco--not like before
