Loud shake and rumbling this morning...
Now the '71 Sylmar quake and '87 Whittier Narrows...THEY were something else. Northridge ('94?) was a pretty good one too.
I watched the leaves on my plant shake, it was a long one, about 20-25 seconds.
For some reason, I always thought that you were at the beach.
Maybe T.O. has exclusive ordinances preventing them? LOL. It has to do with the type of strata underlying an area. Some conduct shock waves better than others, I recall from college geology.
Different quakes seem to shift the ground differently. The '86 O'side quake felt like a wave under the floor with a definite rolling sensation. The SD quake about 10 years ago felt like a series of small rattles and then a sudden jolt, like a really big truck approaching and then bumping into the building.
I grew up and lived in So. Cal for almost 30 years, and rode a lot of big ones.
But THAT one would have been scary!
If it is still shaking after ten seconds it is time to put on the boots and if it is still shaking after the boots are on it is time to stand in a doorway. Doorways are the strongest feature of a house, least likely to collapse. The only problem with doorways is that witches hang out there so you shouldn't stand in the doorway any longer than necessary.
The question is: was it as good for the rest of Southern California as it was for you?? LOL!
Activity on the Ring of Fire is starting to focus on Seattle. Somewhere between Seattle and Juneau.
Depend on where you are. I'm at the northern most of San Diego County. We felt the first few seconds of shaking side-by-side then it turned into a slight up-and-down motion. for another 5 to 10 seconds. It felt a little scary though :)
I felt this real good....
A quake can cause a sharp jolt, a rolling motion, or side-to-side motion.
A lot depends on the magnitude and how close you are to the epicenter. Being very close to a 5.0 shaker can be quite an experience, but those who are 150 miles away might not notice much.
Thanks, I always wondered about that.
lol at witches. Glad it appears to be a mild one as far as damage.
Yeah could be God didn't file the proper permits with the city, that happens quite a bit here. The planning commission is pretty draconian here.
Seriously you may be right, We are on top of a solid rock hill and our footings are locked into the rock so it might have dampened before it reached us.
< I felt a shake a little while ago.
But I don't think it was an earthquake. >
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that, Allegra. Stay safe.
This one felt like a wave here/
Looks like a lot of people felt it good...FOX news must be reading this thread.
Felt zip in Long Beach. LOL, I must have been really into doing the laundry.
What were they doing?
