With an estimated 11 million or more illegal immigrants in the United States, it's clear that existing border policies have become a joke. They too often ignore the labor needs of the economy and, well, where do we begin about the lack of enforcement? The laws against illegal immigration and hiring undocumented workers are poorly enforced, when they are enforced at all.
Past efforts to update U.S. immigration laws have taken years. The task is among the most ticklish and difficult facing Congress, with social and economic ramifications along with diplomatic and domestic security impacts.
Some weeks ago, a serious effort to tackle the immigration headache was launched by Sens. John McCain, a border state Republicans, and Ted Kennedy, a Northeast liberal. This odd duck authorship represents the need to forge a broad consensus. Indeed, McCain-Kennedy is a rational approach that holds much promise if calm heads can prevail over demagoguery.
The McCain-Kennedy bill is in synch with many of President Bush's immigration-reform ideas, which increases the likelihood of success. (Also, the word out of Washington is the president now supports concepts he once opposed, such as not requiring illegal immigrants to return home to gain legal status.)

"Indeed, McCain-Kennedy is a rational approach that holds much promise if calm heads can prevail over demagoguery."
What a joke. These idiots should come to my neighborhood to see literally 100's of illegals in the street every day.
"The McCain-Kennedy bill is in synch with many of President Bush's immigration-reform ideas, which increases the likelihood of success."
"We the people" don't seem to agree.
No it isn't. Just enforce the laws we already have. This is not rocket science here.
"Not this S--t again..."
There's nothing odd about RINO's colluding with Democrats.
It's what they do.
McNuts and the swim expert are members of the good old boy club I wonder who is on the take.
This article infuriates me to no end. HELLO, there are saner heads who have been working on this problem a lot longer than McCain/Kennedy that we want to hear from. In my book Tancredo has to approve anything on the table. He know immigration up, down and sideways..and the loopholes they are trying to pass.
Tancredo is to busy stabbing Tom Delay in the back to the liberal press.
There is also a more conservative Kyl/Cornyn, which the White House is more supportive of and it seems the Denver Post omitted.

It's not rocket science, secure the borders(the W administration doesn't seem to have a problem doing it in Korea), deport the illegals including all the incarcerated with maybe the exception of those on death row which will not only free up slots for American criminals like the child molesters who are roaming about the country undetected but all cut prison costs and finally FINE EMPLOYERS who hire illegals.
Point, Game, Set, Match!
"I wonder who is on the take"
Both
Now I'm really worried Dane. If YOU agree with the Kyl/Coryn bill it MUST be fishy. I've seen your support of illegals on these threads.
Cut the conspiracy crap. Kyl and Cornyn are good conservative Senators.
There bill will not include amnesty, like the Mckennedy bill will.
Have you changed "your" mind on illegal immigration?
A TRUE Statement;
George Bush is activily IMPORTING millions of proto-democrats from Mexico(and other places) for the further dumbing down of America to enhance the ignorance that the public schools don't already produce..
He WILL get blamed and rightfully so.. since he not only does pitifully little about it.. but the entire republican party will be blamed too.. Theres a pay back a'coming. Illegals don't run wild merely in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona and Mexifornia(and Florida).. anymore..
There running wild EVERYWHERE.. from east to west, north to south.. Proto-democrat insurgents at least as anti-american as a normal democrat.. maybe more so.. since they are not even americans.. and don't intend to be unless they get dual citizenship like Canadians.. The Northern political parasites.. on the American body politick..
Ya think we could get a clause that holds employers of illegals responsible (if by their co-conspiracy of breaking the law) the said employee committs a crime? HUMMMMM.....naw, won't happen.
McKennedy are trying to pull the same stunt on Bush they did to Reagan. We know it is a ploy to force enforcement of illegal alein laws to fail.<. As Nancy always said JUST SAY NO.
"There is also a more conservative Kyl/Cornyn, which the White House is more supportive of and it seems the Denver Post omitted"
Shamnesty-Lite.
The fines on companies that hire illegals have to hurt. Sure Walmart was ordered to pay 11 million dollars but the fact that Walmart willingly paid an extra 5 mil shows how little the fine hurt. It should have been 100 million or more.
We don't want to put companies out of business for a first offence but they need to feel the pinch.
