NOTE TO ALL: I really miss the ability to be on the Dose during the work week, so am delighted to "see" you on the weekends. With no new photos today, and with Snugs doing such a fabulous job picking up the best photos from the last couple of days, I thought this would be a good time to take a trip down memory lane.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: Keeping the above exchange about the NAACP in mind, I'm pleased to present yet another of the many current and former high-ranking black members of the administration of President George W. Bush:

Michael A. Battle
Director of the Executive Office for United States Attorneys
U.S. Department of Justice
This administration has been by far the most diverse in U.S. history. Can they all be "Uncle Toms" and "Oreos," whatever the comparable terms are for Americans of Hispanic, Asian, Arab, Jewish and other ethnicities?

Then Vice President Bush with his mother, Dorothy Walker Bush, at Walker's Point, Kennebunkport, ME. No date given. Now we know for sure who George W. most resembles, his paternal grandmother.

George H. W.'s father, Prescott Bush, playing baseball for Yale University, circa 1917.

George H. W. Bush and his little sister, Nancy, circa 1928.

I'm reading, "Black Rednecks and White liberals" by Thomas Sowell. He was on Rush yesterday. I think it should be required reading for ALL NAACP members!

Former President Bush stands in front of a portrait by Ron Sherr of himself and his son, current President George W. Bush. Although the caption does not say where the portrait hangs, I believe it is in the GHWB Presidential Library. It is an absolutely fabulous portrait. Gorgeous and expertly captures the character of both men. The photo was taken 13 Dec 02.

Our Dubya was nine months old in this photo with his dad.

Depending on the time of year this was taken, GWB was either approaching three or had just turned three when he went "swimming" in the wash tub, Midland, TX. circa 1949.

George W. Bush wearing a cowboy outfit as he sits on a pony, circa 1949-1950. The date puts him between three and four in this photo.

The future governors of Texas and Florida (and the future President of the United States), circa 1955. Depending the time of year, GWB was eight or newly turned nine -- and little Jeb didn't look especially pleased to be having his photo taken.

A dog lover all his life, baby George W. Bush plays with the dogs at Walker's Point, Kennebunkport, ME., circa Spring 1947 when he was about eight or nine months old.

Here's GWB with his beautiful collie, 11 Feb 54. "Lassie" was a big hit on TV back then, which may be why he wanted a collie. In Feb. 1954 the future president was seven years old.
