I can understand a certain amount of incredulation at some theorys here on FR....
BUT, isn't that what this site is good for---anonymous thoughts being able to be batted about by "like-minded" people in a political and moral sense?
I learn a lot about the world and MYSELF, by letting myself let go and gossip and speculate on this website...we aren't hurting anyone..

Second moral of the story: too many parents are falling down on the job when it comes to teaching their sons how to treat women.
Terrified of the possible economic tsumani...no more American tourists...the entire Aruba establishment on down to local shopkeepers, small business people are tiptoeing around this murder. I wonder how they'd feel if their daughter had been raped and murdered? The other question is, how much does anti-Americanism play in all this? If young van der Sloot hears Americans bashed every night at the dinner table, he'd have a prejudice against 'rich, arrogant' Americans. Maybe all three felt that way and decided to stalk one, drug, and rape her. I can't believe this was deliberate murder. It was three testosterone driven idiots acting together to do things they'd never do alone. Like a pack of dogs.

Both of my sisters were very "smart" but did dumb things..
I got lesser grades, but my common sense kept me out of a whole lot more trouble...(although I admit to some dumb things).
There are no guarantees in such things...but some of us wonder if they might have at least made an effort.
Leaving a passport in your hotel room is an extremely poor thing to do while traveling internationally. The only time you should be separated from your passport is when you are staying at a hotel where they take it for safekeeping at the desk when you check in. Preferably they should be carried in a zippered pouch of the sort that is worn under your clothing.

True, Natalee's foolish decision to go off with Van der Sloot cost her her life, but some of her friends said that he cozied up to her on the beach the first day they were there. Every day after that, he'd turn up 'by chance'. That last night, she probably thought she knew him as well as most adolescents know casual acquaintances. Plus, witnesses said after she got into the car, the two brothers, who'd been crouched down in back, sat up. She probably didn't know they were in the car until it was too late.

I posted nearly the same thing before seeing your response. Too many parents do not teach their sons how to behave. They lecture their daughters, but send their sons out the door with a wink. There are two groups that need to be educated in this equation.

The only part of that sentence that we think we know is true is that she was a beautiful, young, blonde American.....oh, and that she was in a foreign country.

One of my customers is good friends with her stepfather. He told me last week that she did not date much in high school. I asked him why not, she was such a pretty girl. He told me that she was a book worm.

From what I have heard, and the story keeps changing, the three boys they arrested yesterday, told the police they left her at the hotel, and they told the police they saw one of these first two men, helping her....
So, I would say it is possible that the actual killer(s) might have fingered the two black men...not an automatic racial bias...

When it's a "field trip" for minor children, the chaperones have some authority. I would guess a few teachers or parents went along--I don't know, but that'd be reasonable. Picture trying to restrain some frisky young thing--who happens to be an adult. You could do...what? Express some disapproval? Try to dissuade? Frankly, you can have a little moral suasion...that's all.

I missed most of the talk shows on this. Right from the start, when I heard that poor Natalee left her group with three young men in a car, I had a bad feeling. There is only one reason those guys found it necessary to separate her from the group--to get her alone for a gang rape.
