The chances are that Alabama will have a Democratic governor in 2007 (certainly if Moore is our nominee next year) so I don't think appointing Sessions in say, 2009, would be all that good of an idea
I think I understand what you are driving at - a dem gov could appoint a dem senator to fill out Session's term?
