TEHRAN (AFP) - Hollywood actor Sean Penn has swapped greasepaint for notebook as he visits Iran to cover the presidential elections next week for a California newspaper.
Penn, star of rugged hits like "Mystic River" and "29 Grams", was an unexpected visitor at Tehran's Friday prayers where he was seen clutching a reporters' notebook as he surveyed the proceedings.
He refused to make any comments to his fellow members of the press, restricting himself to confirming that he was in the Islamic republic to cover the elections for the San Francisco Chronicle.
At his hotel he has been registered as "Sean Justin Penn", journalist, according to an employee.
Penn is already known for his high-profile activities as an opponent of President George W. Bush.
He caused outrage in Washington by visiting Baghdad in December 2002, just before the US-led invasion of Iraq. He then took out a full page advertisement in the New York Times to explain his stance.
LMFAO
Just, Damn!!!
Another Jimmie Carter in the making.
Well, I guess the San Francisco Comical is just proving that it takes no experience, training (or brains) to be a "journalist". That's pretty much what I've always assumed when I read the Comical!!
Time to set up web pages putting in bogus quotes of Penn wanting the people to rise up and behead all Islamic pigs.....then let the Mullahs take their course!
If I was Iranian, I'd be scared, the last time Sean showed up in the neighborhood, we invaded.
What a silly bunt.
Has he slugged anyone yet?

Was (AREC BALWIND) ALEC BALDWIN busy???
hahahaha!!! the leftist/liberal mentality in all its glory... three cheers for an ideology that has failed miserably...
His PR firm will, of course, carefully edit everything Penn writes and submit the text via wordprocessor. The original manuscript in crayon on yellow paper will be retained in the Penn Temple to be cherished and revered by those stupid enough to think that this guy is not a flaming clymer.
Penn's text will praise the current viciously cruel regime of Iran while, at the same time, criticize Bush for failing to ensure that Muslim feelings, every one of them, were not bruised at any time for any reason.
Penn's next nursery school assignment will be to turn pimp in Paris and pretend he understands something French. Don't worry, his PR people will make him look not so idiotic.
Who issued him a visa to enter Iran? Who knows what current state department rules are on travel to Iran by American Citizens?
I hope some CIA spook in Iran is bored and gives this spunkoli a real workover using plyars and a torch.
