1) All Allen has to do to win is hold all of Bush's states Bush held in 2000, and go after a couple of light blue and purple states.
2) Wadhams ran some campaigns like Allard and Conrad where his candidates weren't very strong.
Allen/Owens 2008!
Allen 2008 *Ping*
Neither one is known outside of their own states. They are going to need an awful lot of exposure! If they weren't mentioned once in a while on Free Republic - I wouldn't even recognize them.
Dick Wadhams -- providing hope of success for millions of people with embarassing names, from Ben Dover to Me Suk Yu.
Democraps have tried the "not smart enough" charge with every Republican candidate since Ford...people don't listen to that garbage anymore
I like Allen as well
Running for president will probably help with that, doncha think?
After Wadhams helped Thune to rid the country of Daschle, I'd never venture to bet against Wadhams. It's beginning to look a lot like an Allen ticket in 2008.
"Neither one is known outside of their own states. They are going to need an awful lot of exposure! "
Jesus Holy Christ - Do you think ANYONE outside Arkansas knew who Bill Clinton was in 1989, or Jimmy Carter in 1973 or Howard Dean in 2001?
You get exposure and name ID AFTER you win the Primaries you do NOT need it beforehand.
Owens has been shooting himself on the foot repeatedly.
Many people will remember George Allen Jr. from his father, a Hall of Fame football coach and CBS football commentator. Also, it is an easy name to remember. "Jimmy Carter" "George Bush" "Bill Clinton" "John Kennedy". It is a lot easier to get elected with a name that fits nicely on a bumper sticker compared to "Dukakis" "Deukmajian" etc.
Who the heck is Owens?
Allen is next door in VA and well known to me. I especially like his stance on illegal immigration - very against. He could be the man to secure our borders, and if so I'll vote for him on that basis alone.
I'd prefer that Condi Rice run fpr VP, or POTUS with Allen as VP to defuse a Hitlery run. Either way, it's all good.
That quote there just secured him the nomination and the general election.
Owens is back with the wife, and I think Beauprez will hold onto the Governor's mansion in 2006.
LOL Calm down! Just pointing out what I've seen when Allen is mentioned alot - Freepers sayin "Who is he?".
Governor Bill Owens of Colorado.
Rice won't be picked because Allen will be battling "Bush fatigue", and her pro abort, pro Affirmative action, complete lack of experience, and open borders statements will keep Allen from taking her as VEEP.
The VEEP will be a conservative Guv, either Owens, Sanford in Carolina, or Pawlenty in Minnesota.
Owens' support from his home state would be lukewarm.
Ok sorry, but I just get sick of freepers saying this over again when it's not true.
I will stand behind whomever wins the primary. I think the field will be verrrrrrrrrrrry crowded! On both sides actually. It should be very interesting!
"He dropped support for Shaffer and backed Pete Coors, who lost a Senate seat to Salazar."
Allen and Rove HATED Schaffer too, even when he was the only declared candidate.
If you remember, Allen and Rove begged all the major candidates in CO to run from Senate like Beuaprez, McCinnis, Coffman and they all turned them down.
The National Party and Rove would have made sure COors won the primary no matter what Owens did.
Frankly at the time Coors looked good on paper, Coors was well known throughout the state, his family had contributed money to all sorts of charities in Colorado.
As for the rest, I think Owens just had bad luck.
