I don't think I would like to be pursued by somebody who could calmly lie on a table with a knife sticking out of his face like that. This looks like one seriously tough dude.
OTOH, I do like his message to his friend about rugged self-reliance being the path to success. Work harder, stop complaining, don't be in a hurry to get things - this is all good advice. Hopefully it is becoming the common wisdom in Russia.

I think the "friend" is a coward. He plunged the knife in while Arthur was asleep. When Arthur awoke the friend was not there (probably ran). If I were him I'd worry about Arthur.
