TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Authorities raided 17 Chinese restaurants around Michigan that they suspect of ducking millions of dollars in taxes and importing undocumented workers as a "modern version of indentured servants." Search warrants were also served at 21 homes of suspected undocumented Chinese workers.

This is going to be fun.
I suspect that a lot of Chinese help in restaurants are undocumented workers.
OK, I'll say it: You can raid a Chinese place, but 2 hours later you just wanna raid it again.
I used to work for a woman who owned Chinese restaurants. She really knew how to screw her people. She would bring in workers from Taiwan and put 8 of them in a 4 bedroom house while charging them $300 a month for rent (They made $400 a month). That kept them from saving enough money to start their own restaurant.
Probably not. The owner holds the green card so he can threaten to send them home at any time.
And an hour later they had to raid them again.
Good one!
This actually happened where I live a couple of years ago. The guy who owned the restaurants lived in an exclusive neighborhood. They raided his house, and found that he essentially had slaves living in his basement, who he forced to work for nothing in his restaurants.
"Help. I am being held prisoner in a Chinese fortune cookie factory."
Who did the raid? A special branch of the SPCA? I guess too many dogs and cats went missing, and then everyone got suspciious.
Sorry had to.
I guess takeout was too slow that day....
Beat me. durn.
Darn,
You beat me to it.
Not only that, but they were very ronery.....

All they have to do is claim they are all cousins working in a "family business" and labor and minimum-wage laws do not necessarily apply.
Staggering how we all seem to have the same sense of humor.
In the town I grew up in...the health department raided a Chinese restaurant called the "Giant Panda Buffet", or something like that, because it was serving cat...
Someone have that ole picture floating around with the fortune cookie open to reveal a fortune that reads "That wasn't chicken?" Should post it here.
