The two Michigan ones that Levin has been blocking because his cousin got blocked under Clinton are coming up now. Levin's reciting his whole grievance. I thought he was up to 2002, but now he's back to 1999.
Levin:
"We submitted blue slips, but they ignored us"
Of course, they had the committee hearing, but the nominees were held anyway. And Hatch was trying to get rid of blue slips, and the republicans got rid of blue slips.
He mentioned that Alberto Gonzalez agreed that it was wrong to hold up the michigan nominees during clinton. But if I remember correctly, BUSH RESUBMITTED one of the michigan nominees in his first set of nominees, along with another CLINTON nominee -- they both got quick approval.
So Bush DID try to solve the problem.
