Ya'll know, that in the south and in the central red states, like Iowa and Missouri, that "fix" has a different meaning...

As in "getting ready to"---I am fixing to go to the store.

LOL

When my mother, who was from Iowa, would go to the stove to pick up the pot of beans or potatoes, she used the word "lift"---She would say, "I'll go lift the beans and potatoes from the stove."

Different dialects and terminology are used even here in the USA, let alone from here to England...
