In areas like Europe and India where TB is very common and endemic the BCG probably makes sense. In the US where it was so UNCOMMON, it made more sense to use the TB test to screen people, and treat those that converted to positive. Once you get the BCG the skin tests all react, so screening is much tougher.
it really is maddening that we nearly had TB completely controlled in the US and through a combination of opening the immigration flood gates, and the AIDS epidemic it took off again here.

BCG is the most used vaccine in the world.
But they doubt that its effectiveness carries over into adulthood because if it did, then we wouldn't have as many TB infected people worldwide.
