I'm not doing that at all. You are pointing to a static map. I am pointing to what has happened in a dynamic economy and society. Over 2-3 decades of a boom in Hispanic immigration, our country has done nothing but become more conservative and more capitalist. And the states where the Hispanic population has gone up are many of the states that have become much more capitalist (especially in the South).
Soon enough Texas will look blue enough like the Valley and Bexar look now.
15% Hispanic in 1976 -- Jimmy Carter
32% Hispanic in 2004 -- GWB (and Republicans state-wide)
Your theory has a million holes in it. Let me know when you can explain these away.
Kalifornia is now lost. It was once solid Republican. maybe you are too young to remember.
Florida is now in play every election. It was once solid Republican too. If it weren't for the Cubans it would be over there too.
Are you unaware of whom most Hispanics sans Cubans and middle class South Americans vote for?
Have you looked at the Kali stats from just 6 months ago?
What about Colorado?
Nevada?
Even Arizona will not hold up to this forever.
Texas saw Bush as a Native Son ...that never hurts plus other unique Tex-Mex qualities but it will catch up there too.
It's already affecting the vote elsewhere too. Illinois for example.
Go look it up.
Now as for Carter in 1976. Carter carried the entire South including MO and KY and TX.
The only southern state not for Jimmah was VA.
The Mexican community in Texas less than half the size it is now most assuredly voted overwhelmingly Dem just like many Anglos....including your's truly (I was 18). Your example only proves more Anglos voted Republican in 2004 than in 1976 and I would bet more Mexican-Americans did too for their homeboy. That is not the case anywhere else.
Outside of Texas, the Mexican vote is not much different than the Puerto Rican vote.
You comments on Hispanic states becoming more "capitalist" baffles me.
What were these states before? Socialist.
NYC is quite Hispanic....is it now more Capitalist?
Do you have an immigration viewpoint besides trying to claim the Mexican vote is more Conservative than it actually is?
